Attached are images of my order / receipt. My order was made on 2021/07/04, 17:09. I made a To Go order in person at the bar counter: a drink and 2 custom enchilada plates which (eventually) came out as expected. My server was a young lady who was helpful.
My server didn't know how to add the "Cut Cheese" item in their system so she called over the bartender, "TJ" to help. As part of the order, I asked for 4 extra cups of salsa; just before paying I noticed that ~$8 extra charge was added for these.
When I asked about the extra charge, "TJ" told me that the charge is right; upon pointing out that customers at the restaurant get free refills to their salsa (and they get more than 1 cup right away), he told me that "different rules apply to them because they eat here". Irked, I asked for the salsas to be removed from my order and "TJ" asked me "So you only want free things?". I responded "Yes" to which he replied "we're not here to hand out freebies".
The server removed the salsa charges while "TJ" told me "we'll give you your drink for free so you don't have to feel like didn't get any free stuff". I said I didn't ask for a free drink but he didn't pay attention, stepped away and a few moments later he put the paper cup in front of me, saying "Here's your free drink, sir." I guess the "sir" at the end was supposed to keep it a polite sentence, ignoring the snarkiness of it and the fact that I didn't ask for a free drink - I asked for something that all other customers get without asking and without being charged.
I understand that To Go orders have some extra costs (packaging) and I'd be willing to pay for a reasonable charge for that. There's nothing reasonable about an $8 extra charge on basically 4 tablespoons of salsa. (To put it in context, each plate (2 beef enchiladas, rice, beans) costs about ~10.) Although I specifically asked for no utensils and no chips, they were placed in the bag (I took out the chips before leaving but didn't notice the plastic ware.)
A few minutes later I asked my server if my drink was charged or not and asked her to charge for it (so it's on a separate receipt that I didn't keep).
I guess I should be thankful for "TJ"-s attempt to house-train me - it's hard to imagine what could've happened if I got away with 4 cups of free salsa. After all, he had every right to kick my teeth out for being a paying customer and not smiling at being ripped off but he didn't. He did put me in my place, though, teaching me that I'm not wanted at Chuy's. I promise that I will remember this lesson and will never set foot inside another Chuy's for the rest of my life (neither will my money). Also, guess what I will say when a family member, a friend or my coworkers bring up the idea of going to Chuy's? I like food at Chuy's but it's not some kind of out-of-this-world great cuisine so I'm pretty sure we'll survive without it.
(I hope it's clear from the above that my 1 star rating is not just because of "TJ" welcoming demeanor but also of Chuy's business practice of punishing customers.)
Thank you...
Read moreI usually have great experiences at Chuys, but this last time I went, the waitress was so rude. We had Marija, and she had an attitude with us from the moment we sat down. After we ordered our drinks, I asked where the bathrooms were, and she said on the other side of the bar. I ended up going the wrong way because this was our first time at this location, and another waitress had to redirect me. By the time I made it back, my boyfriend had ordered for us, but he forgot to get mine without veggies. We flagged our waitress down and let her know we forgot to let her know that I didn't want vegetables. She seemed so annoyed, and when she walked away, she was muttering under her breath. We tried to let it go. She came back with both of our plates, and mine still had the vegetables on it. I asked her if it would be possible to get another plate since this one had vegetables. She rolled her eyes and said it would be a lot, but she guessed the kitchen could make me another plate.
After that, she returned and told me my order would only come with the flautas, and that's basically it because everything else comes with vegetables. For reference, I got the appetizer plate. I told her that I'm okay with the guacamole having veggies because I could pick around it, but the other items on my plate I would like to be made without the veggies inside.
She ended up bringing my plate after a while, and it didn't have the queso or the guacamole, but it had plenty of tomatoes and lettuce on the side. I told her how they were forgotten, and she again took a deep breath and said she would be back again. She brought them out to me and told me next time I NEEDED to order my food with no pico instead of saying no vegetables because the kitchen was confused by me saying no vegetables but if I said no pico they would've understood better. Even though she was so rude, I just said ok because at that point, it had been a long time since my partner received his food, and I was ready to eat.
I've ordered this particular dish with no veggies at multiple chuys locations with absolutely no problem. They always make my plate correct, and I never have had to go back and forth with a waitress as much as I had to do with Marija. Needless to say, we will definitely not be back to...
Read moredo NOT go here during lunch service. my boyfriend and i decided to go here during a monday lunch (incredibly slow), as we have grown up at this chuy's with our families our whole lives. we were greeted, given our drinks, and left alone for 15 minutes. we wanted to get queso, but we were walked past 5+ times until we were finally able to get our servers attention to order our appetizer. when the queso arrived, our server did not say anything to us and promptly walked away. our drinks were completely gone, and we sat there for another 20 minutes without refills. when i got up to go ask the bartender for refills, i was met with a glare and asked "where are you sitting? i'm too busy so i'll let your server know". she had four people at her bar top... one was paid out... don't know how she was "too busy", but i went back and sat down anyways to not inconvenience her further. when i was walking back to the table, i saw my server just casually hanging out at the host stand, and i was followed to take our order and given refills. the rest of the visit was fine, food was mediocre at best, manager came and spoke to us, until it was time to pay the bill. it was like pulling teeth to ask for a to go box and the check (mind you we wanted tres leches but we wanted to get the heck out of there). we finally left, but we have had other experiences before during lunch where we have been straight up ignored and walked past. (idk if it's because we're a young couple and they don't think we'll tip or what. but i promise you we tip the entire bill and then some, because we also work in the service industry). all of that being said, we're both servers, and the things we've seen during lunch shift have made us lose our appetite. definitely recommend going to the chuys off of...
