I almost feel bad rating Truluck's with 5 stars. Mostly because I've rated other fine dining restaurants with 5 stars and most don't come anywhere close to matching the superior level of service nor the variety and quality of food our family ALWAYS gets from this elite-level, fine dining experience. Truluck's is more than just a 5-star restaurant, it's an experience that should be shared with close friends and family for any occasion.
It was love at first sight, and bite, when my wife and I visited for our anniversary earlier this year. I specifically asked for an experienced server that would help make the night special and memorable. I hoped, at the very least, we would be taken care of by a capable server and have the kind of meal that might entice us to come back. Instead, we found our new favorite restaurant AND the type of server I thought existed only in books and film.
I booked through OpenTable, entered my request into the notes section, and hoped for the best. Highest compliments to the hosting staff and managers. Not only was my request taken seriously - it was completely fulfilled from start to finish. The hosting staff even called the day-of to confirm our reservation and ease any concerns I had about making sure our night was on par with my request.
Enter, Chris Foster, former executive chef, and server extraordinaire. Never before have we experienced a server that could truly paint a picture of every menu item, on demand, and leave your mouth watering for a taste of every item on the menu! He's a genuinely nice person who truly cares about the guests at his tables and takes pride in knowing you are completely satisfied with every part of your evening.
Calling Chris a server is an insult and a discredit to his craft. He's more than a server, more than a waiter, more than anything we've come to expect in the service industry. He deserves a title of his own and surpassed everything that defines his position. His knowledge of fine foods and his menu is more than next-level - it's on a level all of it's own. He makes it seem as though he crafted every detail of the menu and it wouldn't surprise me if he knows it as well as The Chef him/herself.
We liked our first experience so much, we brought the whole family back with us 2 weeks later. He had proven he could take amazing care of the 2 of us, now we brought 6 more with us and Chris didn't disappoint! We had been talking him up for 2 weeks and he hit it out of the park a second time! The kitchen and staff was spot-on, again, and we left with full bellies and smiles on our faces.
10 stars for the restaurant, 10 stars for the kitchen, 10 stars for the hosting staff and managers, and 100 stars for Chris.
We are going back to see Chris again in 2 nights and we are 100% confident he will wow us again! Can't wait!

Read moreThis place is a food lovers paradise. From start to finish it was absolutely AMAZING. 🤩. I have spent previous birthdays celebrating at Truluck’s, but it was always the Dallas location. This was my first time at the Plano location, and it was better than Dallas. Yes. I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is quite calm and relaxing. Really soft elegant lighting. The decor is very classy very mindful ..very demure 😉. My server was Austin. He was fantastic! His attentive service really help make this a great 1st visit. I started off with the Tomato Salad and a cocktail called a Voila. The drink came with a neat smokey bubbly presentation, and it was so enjoyable that I had two! I did try the First Crush also. I didn’t really vibe with it. So, I got my second Voila. Now, as a tomato lover, I was blown away at how delicious the Tomato Salad was. The tomato was big, warm, and fresh. The bacon was thick and bursting with flavor. The purple onion gave it a nice flavor contrast. While the house made Buttermilk Dressing set it off like a 4th of July firework show. It was finger lickin good. This may be my new favorite salad. On to my entree. I usually go with the Alaskan King Crab leg, but I went rogue and ordered the Blue Crab Stuffed Lobster Tails. OMG! It knocked my socks off. The crab was on top of spinach inside the tails. It was soooo good that I can’t believe that I had never tried it before. My only complaint is that the tails were small. I have a hearty appetite, and I definitely wanted more 😂. Finally, let’s talk about dessert. I had the Baked Alaska on the house for my bday. It came with a very cool table side presentation also. They lit it on fire before I ate it. I love dinner and a show. I also ordered their Carrot Cake to go. I promise you it is the best in Dallas! The cake is super moist the icing is creamy and not too heavy. The sauce and the pecans just make it life changing. Even though I ordered the petite size, it was plenty. Heaven on a plate pretty much sums it up. Truluck's has never let me down and this time was no different. Thank you Truluck’s staff (especially the Chef) for one of the best birthday meals ever. Please go and experience Truluck’s for yourselves. You can thank me later. Just don’t forget to tell them that Guilty...
Read moreNot surprisingly, this is a lively Truluck’s location on a Saturday night. The bar area was nearly full, creating a claustrophobic effect the way it’s trapped behind the hostess stand. By contrast, the dining area is spacious and the ceiling area is lined with faux windows that have a nautical feel, like the designated area for the rich people on the Titanic. While the bar area (although snug) is vibrant, everything else is backlit by open menus and checkbooks. It’s as if they each contain part of Marsellus Wallace’s soul from Pulp Fiction. I suppose it’s an upgrade on straining to read using a votive candle or showing one’s age with a smartphone magnifier, but still. It can be a bit disorienting if you don’t expect it.
The service was fine but also very corporate — more focused on the upsell than the guests’ well-being. Maybe that’s OK — they are running a business, after all — but it’s hard to know which upgrades are worth it when the server suggests all of them. It’s going to be overpriced no matter what, so some tailored guidance regarding the splurge would have been helpful.
Left to our own devices, we ordered the miso glazed sea bass and the 8 oz filet (medium rare). Both proteins were perfectly cooked, and the peppery char on the filet was spot on. My “splurge” was adding lobster to the Mac & cheese side for an extra $10, and that’s the one thing I would not recommend doing. The pasta occupies most of the crock-like bowl, so the lobster meat crumbled on top looks more like an afterthought. Also, it’s difficult to serve oneself without the lobster meat falling to the table on either side of the bowl, which made the upgrade feel like an even worse choice. Maybe take a second to mix it in instead of leaving all of the sauce at the bottom.
Aside from the lobster confetti fiasco, this was a top notch experience and definitely worth a return visit, at least to resume the quest for the right splurge item. Will the next server help us narrow it down, or are they all programmed to upsell the same way?...
