Meh. Pretty much the definition of hipster place.
Winter is coming and felt like some spicy hot Korean soup. But they don't have it. I figure I go with old stand by, Bibimbob. What I got was not what I expected or used to. It had vegetables not usually found in typical BBB. That is OK. That is perfectly in line with Korean BBB. It is basically peasant food thrown together with whatever left over banchan ( side dishes ) is available. But all these vegetables did not work together or add to the dish.
The reason I called this place hipster place is that many , not all, hipsters , in their quest to be different, embrace the difference even if it has no merit or redeeming quality.
Same with this dish. They had to be different to be hip and by doing so, ruined something that is pretty hard to ruin.
But that is OK. Korean food is always evolving and maybe someone else will like it. But one thing personally unforgivable is lack of banchan or side dishes. This is one thing that make Korean food stand out over pretty much any other ethnic food. True Korean restaurant will have ever changing variety of side dishes. Those variety of side dishes and generous free refill embodies Korean "정" or hospitality. BBB didn't even come with kimchee. They need to turn in their Koran card.
I grew up with Korean street food and...
Read moreThursday on our way home from dropping my sons stuff off at school, we stopped here and got carry out, and I am so happy we did! It was very clean and nice inside, staff was super nice. We got wings and popcorn chicken, also rice, fries and we couldn't resist trying the moz dogs. The chicken was very crispy, tender and flavored very well, we go the soy garlic glaze, fries were crispy and well seasoned. The rice was very good, my only issue with it was that it is very plain, purple rice. You can easily mix in some kimchi and soy sauce to remedy that though, and my young son(7) loved it plain. The moz stick was amazing, it is mozzarella cheese, breaded like a corn dog and rolled in sugar, it tastes like a mozzarella stick and an elephant ear had a forbidden love child and that child grew up to be famous. I am half middle eastern, and it also kind of reminded me of some of the middle eastern cheese desserts I grew up eating like Qatayef or Kunafa. We will definitely be going back, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wish they had a fried rice option, like kimchi fried rice. But seriously soooo good! Go...
Read moreI was disappointed in this restaurant.
I just moved to Michigan from Atlanta and I really wanted kimbap and bibimbap.
I am gluten free and asked if the bibimbap and kimbap were GF. The vegetable kimbap is NOT gluten free because it has fish cake in it.
I did not like the bibimbap. It had noodles, a lot of vegetables, and lettuce. I like a nice even ratio of rice to vegetables. The bibimbap is heavy on the veggies.
I also remembered (after I added some) that gochujang contains wheat. They have their sauces sitting out for you to grab, which is nice.
They also do the drinks Korean style. You get a metal cup and then they have pitchers of cold water sitting out at the utensil station. I do like how you can get your own take out box instead of getting back in line.
The drinks are rather pricey. $2.50 for a can of Pepsi/Mtn. Dew.
I will probably look elsewhere for Korean cuisine.
Man, I...
