No buns, just cold plain bread from a bag. I'm sorry, but BBQ is supposed to come on warm, toasted, buttery buns. Every BBQ restaurant, festival and food truck ithat I have ever visited has the buttery crunchy fluffy buns, it's what makes the sandwiches so good!! Why bother with the bread at all at this point if nothing is "done" to it? It's not freshly baked, not buttered, nothing. Everytime we have gone in there, it's a ghost town. There are usually 1 or 2 tables with people eating and that's all folks. The brisket was cold and dried out!! The BBQ. Sauce was not warm, it was cold! What is this place doing? I have heard it was better when it was owned by Head Country, not "Dannys". I really wanted to like it....but I just can't. I've tried many different times over the years and I just leave feeling disappointed. This restaurant needs to update...keep the BBQ moist, have warm sauce, have toasted buns. This doesn't seem that difficult to me. But maybe that's just what they do. And how they have always done it. When we came in the past and ordered potato salad, it came in a tiny ramekin, the size of one spoonful of potato salad. I just don't get it. We came here because we had won free money from the chamber of commerce '"Santabucks"....but even after spending "money" that wasn't my own, I was still bummed out. It was just such a let down. People go to BBQ joints with high hopes....((sigh)).....we won't be back, sadly even if it was free.
You know, they say you can always tell how good a restaurant is by looking at how full/packed their parking lot is...
I will say the restaurant was clean and tidy and they did make us fresh French fries, but we were half done with our meal once they were brought out. They seemed to be a small portion as well. I hope Dannys can re-imagine their BBQ or reinvigorate the menu. It could really help them!! They have been around a long time, so maybe we just consistently caught them on bad days/poor occasions. It could be a...
Read moreWe left JW Cobbs to go over to Dannys after a traveling from Wichita Kansas to be there at 11:30am so we could eat ribs.... Only because Cobbs ts us it would be 2 hours before they had ribs!
Good management would of been better prepared, good management would of apologized and offered a discount or alternative.
Danny'sBBQ headquarters where they took covid precautions (not ridiculous but wore mask) Was very clean and nicely decorated! Needless to say their BBQ far out passed Cobbs and we were told they smoke all the time. So they just earned our repeat business.
My guess is JW Cobbs is an old-time restaurant with old-time customers who have lived in Ponca City for years and people go there because they have a connection there
Danny's BBQ will outlast Cobbs because when Cobbs got regular clientele is dead and gone Danny's BBQ will still be earning new customers. Because they know how to run a business and keep their clientele happy. As the rest of us will not put up with such unresponsible management.
Needless to say! We loved Danny's and...
Read moreThe ribs taste like they have been PRE-COOKED and FROZEN. I had the Sampler(3 small ribs, 2 slices of ham, 4 small slices of brisket and 1 hot link) Ribs were a bit tough, the ham was tasty as were the thick but small slices of Brisket. The hot link was not very good, low quality and only hot because it was full of seeds and hard pieces that almost breaks a tooth if you're not careful. The baked beans were delicious but their "side portion" is very small. The seasoned fries would have been better had they not been sitting under a couple of heat lamps for a while. They offered me fresh fries which is a plus but if you are willing to serve me cold fries, I'm going to take that in to account. The BBQ Sauce is bottles of Head Country, which is a good BBQ sauce but better BBQ places MAKE THEIR OWN. Overall, could be better, have...
