Sushi King — Restaurant in Poquoson

Clean resturant seats a little worn. Sushi was outstanding. Service was outstanding. I have eaten in the Newport News restaurant, Hampton restaurant, and Richmond restaurant. I have eaten at Sushi King so many times I couldn't count them all! I mostly eat lunch but have had parties there and had many night meetings there. I have eaten sushi all up and down the East Coast and have paid checks for several hundred dollars down to around $10.00. I have eaten in sushi restaurants that conveyor belts bring sushi to your table. I love sushi! My favorite place to eat sushi is Sushi King! 90 percent of the time I have had perfect service, The food is perfect, and the price is outstanding compared to the high dollar sushi traps. I have eaten there many times and I have had a bad waiter a time or two. But that is going to happen every where! I drive 60 miles to get to Sushi King passing many other Sushi restaurants! The Restrooms are always clean as are the Restuarants themselves. Considering the poor work force that exists nowadays and the difficulty to keep good employees Sushi King does an amazing job. When I go alone and I do alot because of the bad reputation of sushi from people that have never tried it. I usually have the same thing and I do make a pig of myself! I have Valcano sushi and beef dumplings! I eat three or four helpings and pay $25.00 or $30.00 and that includes tip. It just doesn't get any better than Sushi King! Now I am locked away because of the virus to far in the country to be delivered to, the very first place I'm going to when this mess is over is SUSHI KING!

I was finally able to get back to Sushi King today. I had my favorite Volcano sushi and beef dumplings. I had to wait 20 min. To get seated, the place was packed and it was packed for good reason. The food was stellar! The wait staff was also stellar, I swear the waitress had to be reading my mind. When I needed her she was already there. The restaurant was incredibly clean. I would never have believed the food could taste any better but it sure did today. I just can't say enough good things about how great my eating experience at Sushi King was today. I will return every chance I get. This is a must try for everyone. If you love sushi you will be glad you did.

It's now March 2024 And the quality and taste of the food is still excellent. The service is awesome. The people are great. Natalie my server, again anticipated my every need. This is unfortunate. Having to beg to get napkins or any eating utensils. Then we get a very small stack of cocktail napkins. When we first arrived I asked my 13 year old son to go in and tell the hostess that we had 5 people 1 and baby so we couod get in line for a table. She apparently asked the ages of everyone and my son told them 5 adults. They never asked me and brought me a bill for 190 dollars to include tge 30 dollar tip for parties of 6+. When I threw up a flag and let them know that one of my kids was 10 and the other just turned 2, they brought out a manager like I was lieing! Luckily I literally had thier birth certificates on my phone. I cant believe it came to that! So even after this, they couldnt find a way to take of the 30 dollar tip. I looked at the manager and said "look at our table, not one plate has been removed the whole time, we never once got drinks refilled, and our waitress didnt even take half our orders- someone else did! Finally I just told him to keep the tip but let her know she didnt deserve it! I just wanted to go home. This place unfortunately gets worse every time we come here. It's not very busy. Love eating here and have probably eaten here 30 times. I am lowering my review of this place from 4 stars to 2, and not solely based off of this one bad experience. They only get 2 because the sushi chefs deserve better. They pumped out sushi quickly and the rolls were very well made. The photo above is not even a photo of all the plated we used...2 times my clumsy kids knocked tge plates on the floor because there were so many! But no one came by to help. We had to pick them up ourselves and just keep finding ways to stack them tighter so they didn't topple. So...

I debated leaving this review, but I feel it’s important because it may help someone else.

I’ve visited this establishment multiple times and have generally been pleased with both dine-in and online orders. However, my most recent experience was disappointing.

I ordered online, and when I got home, I realized my order was incorrect. I had ordered two classic spicy salmon rolls, but what I received was hand-rolled instead. I called to request an exchange, but the manager refused, saying, “We can’t remake it or give you a refund because we don’t have the money to do that.”

We reviewed the app together and pinpointed where the issue occurred. I explained that there are five different online ordering options, and I have always used this one without a problem. The manager suggested I contact the company for a refund instead. Before ending the call, I encouraged them to check their system and update it, as I’m not the only customer who has encountered this issue given the information in the conversation. To know this is an issue and to not fix it, is a huge problem and it feels like they are cheating people out their money.

Unfortunately, no solution was offered. I understand times are tough, but telling a customer, “We can’t remake or refund your order because we don’t have the money,” is not good customer service or business practice. I wasn’t asking for my money back—I simply wanted the correct rolls I had paid for.

My suggestion to others: If you plan to order from here, I recommend ordering in person or calling ahead rather than using the online system. My mistake was not checking my order before leaving, as...
