We came across the Gateway looking to decompress after long days while on an extended work assignment in Port A. Our first impression was that this was a locals-only bar where outsiders might not be welcome. This proved to be furthest from the truth. Their head bartender, Kristina, soon made our small group feel like she’d known us for years, and we were welcomed in like honored guests. The Gateway became our regular post-work hangout site, where we could play pool, darts, pick out songs on the jukebox and just generally decompress without ever feeling rushed. The regulars also made us feel welcome, and showed us how to use the electronic dart board or shared news of the day. The food is not much to speak of, but the drinks are good and fast to arrive. Read moreGateway Tavern is the quintessential dive bar that you can't help but love. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile from the bartender. The atmosphere is laid-back and unpretentious, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day.
One of the standout features of Gateway Tavern is its specials: you can't beat their shot and beer combo for just $5.50! The happy hour (and even standard prices) are clearly what keeps both regulars and newcomers coming back.
They've also got a pool table, dart boards, a jukebox and a handful of tvs. If you're feeling lucky, you can try your hand at the pull tabs they have for sale. Personally, we've had great luck and won three times our money playing them!
Overall, Gateway Tavern is a hidden gem that you...
