As a local and Native Texan... I do not recommend. On a Friday at 12:30 pm we decided to try El Jefe Restaurant for the first time. I read good reviews so I was quite surprised to see a nearly empty dining room. Regardless we sat and ordered. Beef enchiladas Americanas plate and the shredded beef flautas plate. The courtesy sopa and chips and salsa were good. However the main entrees were not good and quite gross to be honest. The enchilada sauce is like nothing I've ever tasted. It almost tasted like spaghetti sauce. Weird! It was dark red like ketchup. Inside was mostly potato chunks, not beef. Not at all what Texmex enchiladas should look and taste like. The flautas were such a disappointment. Dry, tough and flavorless shredded beef rolled up in a greasy flavorless corn tortilla that is soggy from lettuce and tomato. The rice and beans were tasty but very small portions. However, you had to order a flour tortilla. Luckily I did and made a bean taco. We did not eat the entrees, tipped the waitress generously , paid and left. What I found shocking was when we were asked if we enjoyed our meal I replied NO. The waitress did not question and was not concerned. When we paid at the register, the man asked if everything was good. I simply stated No it was not. He did not question me further as I'm sure he did not want to have a conversation about it in public or refund our money. We did not ask for a refund and wouldn't have anyways. In all, I would not recommend and will never return. It seems like they'll throw anything on a plate because a tourist wouldn't notice but...

I would like to give it a 3 1/2 star rating but I can’t. The food unfortunately was tasteless to most of us. I ordered the Pancakes with egg, bacon & potatoes. The only thing I enjoyed was my pancakes.. those were good but a little cold. My potatoes were dry and cold.. the egg was like an egg substitute, flavorless. My bacon was very crispy again no flavor. The caldo had no flavor, no cabbage in it either & small portions for the price. The tacos were ok I guess . The mini pancakes well they were just small for the price. The food got eaten we were all hungry! The waiter never checked up on us for refills. Took a while to get our drink order so we quickly ordered our food when he finally approached our table. This was our 1st time there. Can’t say we would be returning. Sorry. Also, the ac vents are leaking nasty dirty water onto us or one of us and at the table. I made sure to move and mk sure the water doesn’t go in our food. Chips and salsa, small portion but the...

The food looked good but unfortunately I wouldn't know what it tasted like. It wasn't ridiculously busy, so I'm not sure why my partner and I didn't get service. The two hispanic males in front of me sure did get a great experience. Seated right away and given coffee as well as a menu all before we were addressed. Eventually, I was seated and not even given a menu. After 5 min of waiting, my partner got up to see if we could at least get a menu. He wasn't even acknowledged to the point where other patrons were calling on the staff to help us. After that we decided to leave because the feeling after that just didn't sit well with us. Im extremely disappointed because I was looking forward to a good meal before...

If you’re tired of Dirty Al’s, Señor Donkey, etc. this the place to go. The breaded shrimp is so much bigger, better and much more full of taste than what i’ve had before at these big named restaurants. Personally the food overall is definitely a 10/10. Toast was amazing, rice was great and not pasty or dry, taco is definitely bigger than anticipated, the free small appetizers included was authentic. Customer service was excellent too, even let us try the lemonade before ordering which is freshly made here in house and came in a surprising half a liter jarrito. The atmosphere is the true Mexican nostalgia. 110% recommend.
