A friend and I stopped by Sisters' Bistro on Reid, and the report thereof gloweth! My friend and I, with years of restaurant work behind us, ordered and observed with a critical eye to benchmark notes. The decor is simple, with an atmosphere reminiscent of a speakeasy on the rise. The broad, tinted windows give the place a gentle warmth in daylight, and at night the lights are low enough to be intimate without being dim. The breakfast menu has a lovely selection, especially for those with an early sweet tooth. The lunch and dinner menus are a full page of delightful ideas with very reasonable pricing and nicely hearty portions. The French onion soup, at $6, is underpriced. Rich, fresh, and with a buttery crostini toasted under Swiss cheese for a little extra crunch to the side. Bistro Grouper with mushrooms, spinach, and a cream sauce over seared vegetables: I could smell it across the table and I was certainly impressed! The fish was well-trimmed and cooked to flaky tenderness, which is a great indication of cooking skill (it's very easy to overdo and make the texture lose cohesion), as is the balance of flavors that had my friend absolutely pleased with his choice. I tested a more basic set of skills with a Here's The Beef, a sandwich of delicately-sliced roast beef, and I was also quite happy with my findings. From crunchy pickle spear to careful arrangement of ingredients on a nicely crusty hoagie, I could tell that their knives are in good condition, their storage is well-rotated, and they clean their fryers thoroughly (they use seasoned breaded fries, and those will tell you everything about a fryer). Dessert was cheesecake made from the dreams up, creamy and flaky in a way that speaks of blended cheeses, served with fresh-cut strawberries in a sweet sautée pan syrup drizzled hot over the top. While I can't comment on the wine list, I did notice the taps behind the bar include a 30A and at least two Oyster City brews, along with Modelo and Dos Equis. Between the quality of the food and the rather nice prices, I would say Sisters' is still a great place for lunch! Throw in a dinner menu, tapas, and $6 desserts? We still...
Read moreWe come to the Port St. Joe area a few times a year for the last 3 years now. Some family members have been to Sisters’ Bistro, but this was my first time. Luckily we were seated right away (we came during the Friday Fest on July 5).. we attempted Hunt’s and were told it would be at least a 2 hour wait. I’m glad now that we didn’t wait there.
I ordered the tomato basil soup with grilled chicken for a starter. When I tell you that this is probably one of the best soups I’ve ever eaten. It was creamy and full of flavor. I wasn’t sure about the grilled chicken aspect, but now I don’t think I could eat tomato basil soup without it! You can tell the chef really layers the flavors and doesn’t just toss stuff in. I basically licked the bowl.
I got the Pesto Pasta (can’t remember exact name) for my main course. It had pasta, gulf shrimp, bay scallops in a creamy basil pesto sauce. Yet another winner! The flavors/seasonings are just spot on. Shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. And the basil pesto was perfection. I was pretty full between the soup, bread, and salad, but you better believe that I welcomed misery so that I could finish that pasta! 🤣
I had 4 others in my party .. the 3 other adults all got the French onion soup as their starter and they all said it was the best they’ve had. One got the daily special which was Grouper with some kind of sauce and shrimp on top, asparagus, and mashed potatoes … one got the bistro grouper and the other got the seafood pasta. We all couldn’t believe how great everything tasted and talked about it even on the way home.
We can’t wait to return and have definitely out this on our must-do list when we are in town!
edit- we ended up eating here the very next day! I had the shrimp crepes this time and oh my goodness they were delicious as well !! My other family members tried new items as well. Uncle had the aioli teriyaki tuna, mom had a dinner salad with grilled shrimp, and aunt had a some kind of steak with a chimichurri sauce. They all enjoyed their meals yet again. My daughter got the chocolate chip pancakes...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about Sisters Bistro! We had a large party of 23 and needed breakfast catered each morning of our stay. Salomon and his team were absolutely fantastic—so kind, accommodating, and always had our food fresh, hot, and ready right on time.
The food was outstanding! Our first morning, we had fluffy, slightly sweet pancakes, crispy bacon, fresh fruit, and perfectly cooked eggs. The pancakes were next-level delicious, and the fruit was fresh and made to order. Another morning, we had French toast and sausages—the French toast was thick, eggy, and cooked just right, and the sausages were juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, more like seasoned bratwurst cut and seared to perfection.
I can’t speak to the dine-in experience, but as a self-proclaimed breakfast snob, I can confidently say that the food was fresh, homecooked, and absolutely delicious. Plus, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of my requests with kindness and efficiency.
If you're in Port St. Joe, I highly recommend Sisters Bistro—whether you need catering or just a great breakfast spot. I know...
