So went to the Bayview again, for the absolutely last time. I got roped into going by my son, he's been going there with his grandmother for years so it's a familiar.
I have never in all the years I've been here since 2005, in the few times that I've been there, ever gotten a decent meal out of there. I think part of the reason for that is that, Jerry the owner was our mailman and then retired and used that money to buy a restaurant, one has nothing to do with the other and it shows.
I ordered eggs over easy, the egg yolk came back with a consistency of a hard boiled egg, not only that but three of the five people at the table ordered eggs benedict, all of their eggs were well overdone.
I pointed out my eggs to the waitress and she offered to bring me fresh eggs I said we'll just one with a runny yolk, she brought back a single egg and the whites were runny! Before she even get five steps away from the table, I told her about it and she said "well they're supposed to be runny you asked for eggs over easy" to which I replied eggs over easy aren't supposed to have runny whites", "oh". I didn't point out the fact that I was a chef for many years and I know what eggs over easy are supposed to be. Not hard yolks or runny whites. Which you don't have to be a chef to know that!
The coffee was weak, and she filled the cups literally halfway or less! The bacon was overcooked, greasy and fatty, it came with a single piece of medium sized toast cut in half.
If someone offered to give me free food from the Bayview I would decline and go to McDonald's. I think they're draw is that they are family friendly and it's a very nice space, so is the old whiskey Mill which is where I'll...
Read moreWhere to start!! When we walked through the door we were ignored. Not a hello, "we'll be with you in a moment", or anything. From the looks of it they weren't very busy and the "bus boy" seated us. We waited 7min for someone to come over and all she did was set water, in stained glasses, and menus down. When I told her we didn't need the menus she told us she couldn't help us but "the other girl" would be with us. I was like ok...she doesn't take orders. So we waited another 5min before "the other girl" actually showed up. And when I told her we knew what we wanted she took the order and disappeared. No one checked on us to see if we needed anything. No other drinks were offered then the sour ice water in stained glasses we did get. I then noticed the older lady who gave us our water was placing orders for other tables, after she completely ignored the fact that I had told her we knew what we wanted and, apparently, refused to help. When we got our food it looked unappealing. The hashbrowns were like cardboard...had a hard time cutting through it. The biscuits and gravy were sweet and the gravy was a beige color as was the sausage. My husband's hashbrowns were the same, sausage looked like it boiled, the eggs were not completely cooked (still raw whites). And our server, whoever she was, failed to check on how we were doing. She finally came by and set the receipt down and left without asking if we were done or wanted anything else. Unfortunately this was a very...

Firstly, the food was absolutely fantastic. I got the captain's platter, and it was about your average price, but way above average in taste and quantity. I can pack some food away, and I didn't manage to finish all of the fries. Nor did my wife who got the fish and chips and love it as well. And the calamari appetizer that we got was delicious! We were fighting over the last few pieces! Well, not really, but it probably would have been worth it to do so! :)
The server was amazing as well. He was quick and attentive, and when I asked for no coleslaw the waiter brought me a pretty awesome house salad instead (which was way above and beyond IMO!). He also was fantastic in that he was around when needed, but didn't hover or visit every 2 minutes.
It was a rainy-drizzly day (weird, out on the peninsula, right? :), but looking out the windows into Port Townsend Bay was great. Lots to see, with the wild life and anchored boats, plus islands and all the water, and yeah. It definitely offers amazing views!
If/when we go back through Port Townsend, I'll definitely make it a point to stop at Bayview...
