I came here before a flight at PDX. It was morning, around 8:15 a.m. I was glad to see they had breakfast, since the restaurant's theme is more around beer and drinks and stuff. To be sure, there were a few people at the bar, but lots of people were having breakfast.
The menu is mostly focused on lunch time food, but they have a few breakfast items. I had the breakfast burrito with bacon. Many of their items feature tater tots, but not this one. I also got black coffee.
The coffee was surprisingly competent. Maybe it's coming from one of the coffee shops up and down the airport. Definitely nowhere near the worst coffee I've had in an airport. The breakfast burrito was was also quite good. It came very hot and stuffed with crispy potato, crispy bacon, egg and cheese. Pretty basic, but everything was well mixed and melted together. The tortilla was nicely toasted as well. The salsa it came with was pretty basic but a nice hit of acid. It was very solid.
The only downside is the expected airport prices. The burrito and coffee were just shy if $20 with tip. Service was pretty basic, they're busy with a lot of customers needing to go fast. I appreciated the ability to pay my bill by QR code to the table, that helped me not get nervous about my flight time.
I have no idea how the drinks or lunch time Fair are here, but her breakfast. This was a solid spot if you can stomach the...
Read morePhenomenally bad. I truly resent this place.
And it’s incredible how much bad service can just derail an otherwise enjoyable meal. Food was good, I had the breakfast burrito, I’ve had it before, and it’s well stuffed and tasty. Shoot, even ordered a cocktail and it was delicious.
But this operation is just so aggressively and senselessly apathetic and lazy. When I walked in, there were maybe 5 patrons and maybe 10 observable workers. First, no one acknowledged me for 15 minutes. No water, no greeting. Cool, I can figure out the QR code and mobile ordering. Didn’t work - wouldn’t allow me to process the order. So I then had to pin down an employee, who then looked at me with the most stupid and confused blank stare.
Got my food and drink, really enjoyed it. Finished and had to bounce. My gal was MIA, so, asked someone else to tender me out. Same, confused response. I then saw what I imagine was some SSP America big wig doing his rounds. So I approached him, interrupted his trash conversation with one of his employees and told him to find me somebody to take my payment.
SSP America has a choke hold on most airports and can get away with this sort of nonsense.
Just, know what you’re getting...
Read moreIt’s not often that I will actually eat a meal in an airport. Typically, the quality is not so great and the prices are very high. When I was leaving Portland, I got to the airport early and had not had any breakfast, so I decided to give Hopworks a try. On the menu was a Hash with chorizo, eggs, potatoes and avocado that sounded interesting. I’m a little hesitant in trying chorizo too far from the Mexican border, as my stomach doesn’t handle it as well as it used to! Well, I’m glad I ordered this. It was really delicious. The chorizo was not too spicy or greasy. The scoop of avocado on top help to mellow out the spiciness. The combination of flavors was excellent and the portion was very generous. I remember looking up and noticing gentlemen at the bar having a draft with their breakfast! No judgment here. I just thought it was amusing, because that’s something I would never do! I believe it was before 8am when I noticed! Service was very prompt and it was truly a contact-less interaction. I was able to view the menu (thru a QR code), order breakfast through the website and even was able to pay online....
