We were put off by the outside scenery at first driving by (not so safe looking area across the street) but so glad we gave it a try. Our waitress served us with a greatest smile from start to finish. Oysters- ordered bunch of different varieties. All fresh and different flavor profiles Lobster roll - they only have Maine lobster roll (cold & mayo). Probably the best lobster roll we had in Maine Chowder - Not a clam chowder. It was a fish chowder. Solid but too much potato making it too starchy I’d say good food and hip vibe makes this restaurant a place to visit while you are in Maine.

I was not sure what to expect but from the moment we pulled up to the Maine Oyster Company, I knew we were in for a special experience. Joe could not have been any nicer and accommodating. Since it was cold and wet, he provided us with additional layers to insure a great experience. We took a slow boat ride out to Cape Small Oyster Farm, where we proceeded to learn to shuck oysters (and eat them). Joe also gave us a great education on oysters and the work he and the team are doing on creating regenerative oyster reefs. A must Maine experience!

We visited Maine Oyster Co. while staying in the area for a short visit in Portland. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy with many different seating options available. Sean & John were very warm, and personable. We were more than happy to hear about their experience as oyster farmers, and the oysters they produced, which were incredibly delicious. Maine Oyster Co. was not only a great spot for oysters, but a good way to get a taste of what Maine is all about- friendly people, and great seafood.

We recently had a corporate event there for oyster shucking. Unless everyone in your group likes oysters/seafood, I don't suggest. There were only 4 options for food and only one was non-seafood and it was a hot dog. (In all fairness, I don't know if this is what our group ordered or if this was all that was offered). At least 11 of our 28 person group left right after the class. Very limited drink choices as well. Staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about Oysters. What is more important and something I have not seen anyone mention is the area this place is in. If you are used the poorer more criminal parts of a city then it may not bother you. I felt so unsafe walking there and we left before it got dark. Homeless everywhere, drug dealers making deals and druggies hanging out all over the place, prostitutes being picked up on the corner...some guy passed out on the sidewalk. It can be quite off putting if you are...

Another amazing one-of-a-kind, intimate corporate event at the Maine Oyster Company. It's a special place, an original! The combination of John the owner shuck 'in oysters & Sean preparing incredible plates made for a special dining experience. The Records on the turntable combined with the cool comfy ambiance was a highlight. We made an easy transition from the bar for drinks & oysters to sitting for small plate entrees. Maine oysters, fresh fatty tuna, a special scallop plate, & Maine crab rolls were all excellent. It felt like we were in a Michelin restaurant. The highest quality fatty tuna was right off the boat & a huge highlight. The night kept getting better & we finished back around the bar & couch area enjoying another hour of fun. The Maine Oyster Company is the real deal for any special occasion. Great for a large group family birthday or perfect for a corporate event. A...

My son and I booked online with no idea what to expect. We are visiting Maine from Iowa and wanted oysters. I’m glad we booked here! We shared a platter of a variety of oysters then attended the oyster shucking class. Everything was very, very good. Very laid back, low stress, informational, fun, and excellent quality. Great experience! We also attended the oyster farm tour out of their base camp facility about an hour away. It was an amazing tour. Captain Joe is an excellent guide and made sure we had a relaxed and fun experience. We learned a lot and had a really great time. Everyone was easy to talk to, no one tried to upsell anything, everyone seemed to take pride in what they are doing and enjoyed themselves. It was just awesome across the board. Highly recommend eating here, booking the shucking class, and touring the oyster farm with...
