We stopped in for beers. Other than this being the oldest bar in Portland, it looks like a run-down casino/dive bar and smells like your grandmother's house. It might be a check box for you if you like old things, but nothing much to get excited about here. That was also the sentiment of the bartender when asked about the place and its history.

Bob the bartender, is in fact a gentleman and a scholar. 1030 roll in, place was slightly empty. Bob welcomed us with open arms very hospitable. I don’t frequent Maine but this place has some music going, fans blowing to scare away “bad karma” and And AND… you ready for this????? Nugs, motz, and fries for the fam… this ain’t no three star or “fore” star… but a FIVE STAR ESTABLISHMENT. When you’re here, you’re family, Bobs...

I like a good dive bar but this place was too much for me. Started well with a friendly greeting and good service but had to leave after one of the other patrons wouldn’t stop staring at me like he wanted to stab me, even as I moved around the venue. The amazing enviroment @Matthew's has reached another level of Awesome!! Portland's oldest Pub has added Saturday to the list of days it dominates the Old Port establishments...
