After a long couple hours rock climbing at the nearby Portland Rock Gym, my friend and I were determined to find some solid health food that would not make us feel like our workout was negated by our lunch, and I am so very happy they convinced me to go to O’Vive.
See, I have done service jobs my whole life, and the cafe was only open for 25 more minutes or so, and I cringe at the idea of walking in and ordering right before close. (If you can avoid it I think it is most polite, but I’m a Libra rising and am pedantic about that stuff)
When we came in, there were a couple people in line ahead of us, and while we were waiting, another person came in behind us. That’s a lot of people for the final closing stint of a tiny cafe.
Not only did AJ, the super sweet attendant, give us plenty of time to look over the menu, but they also happily offered us recommendations for food and drinks. The Harvest salad (what I got) was downright incredible, as was the bowl my friend got. Both were gluten free!!! All dietary restrictions are clearly labeled and this is a HUGE relief, having recently learned I am GF myself.
Now the fantabulous AJ was the only person on shift for this last little stint, and apologizing for the wait, expertly crafted our drinks and salads with what I can only describe as a fine dining touch.
Seriously, sooooo impressed with the presentation here. Jaw dropped! And these photos are from after we hauled our salads to the park. AJ was not only super friendly, fast, and polite, but quick to inform us that everything is prepared fresh and in house by the O’Vive crew. The baked squash, sauces, pickled eggs, all of it—and oh boy, can you taste it. They source from local vendors and support the local economy!
They also give neighborhood discounts for those who work/live in the neighborhood.
AJ ! Thank you so much for your lovely customer service, and for your care with our food and drinks, and for sharing the delightful facts and recommendations from the menu. Seriously you’re amazing!

Read moreHearty and healthy vegan cafe in the middle of a quiet industrial street. Accidentally visited after a yoga session ended next door and there were quite a lot of people.
Luckily the wait wasn't too long. My partner and I have had their chickpea smash burrito which was amazing. This time we opted for their lentil soup and avocado toast with pickled eggs.
Their lentil soup was amazing it was so hearty and rich and comes with rice at the bottom of the bowl. It's actually reminiscent of an Indian dish I've had before, which is a good thing since lentil soups are generally boring.
Avocado toast was nice and simple and the pickled eggs were perfection.
Their ruby hot cocoa is also delicious so don't miss out on this.
Will definitely be back to try a couple more things...
Read moreCalled O’vive and a woman answered saying she had “no idea” her restaurant “was on Postmates”, that they “don’t have lentils in summer” and that they “told Grubhub to take the curry bowl offline” but again, had “no idea” their business was listed on Postmates showing said bowl as an option? What business owner doesn’t know they’re listed on Postmates? I asked her and she giggled. They’re just trying to take people’s money. Driver only delivered my 2 drinks, not my curry lentil bowl which was clearly indicated on Postmates for order. Yes, Postmates refunded me but still. Bad business. Bad faith on...
