I called ahead to check wait times and when I said it was just me they said they could seat one person right away. I got there and it was very busy as usual. There is a sign that says kindly wait to be seated. This is the second time I have stood by the door and absolutely no one acknowledges me not even a greeting for an uncomfortable amount of time, even walking past me to go in and out multiple times. I eventually got someone’s attention and asked if they were still seating. I was instructed to put my name on the list and help myself to coffee. I unfortunately did not have time to wait and I was getting cut in line for coffee which is not the staff’s fault but just seems like an odd system for SUCH a busy place. I understand there may have been a chance I would have a wait a little even after calling, but I had no reliable way to know how long I would be waiting and frankly it just hurt my feelings to be ignored. I’m sure staff is surely doing their best while working such busy shifts but this did make me sad enough to...
Read moreUpdated 2024 Excellence in breakfast. I come down to J&M probably once a month and their quality is always consistent. I would highly recommend the biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are fresh tasting and buttery, gravy is rich with huge chunks of sausage. The homestyle potatoes that come with your plate are always crispy and we'll seasonsed. Our waitress is so personable and prompt with our food we're in, out, and satisfied before we know it. I realize that I'm gushing slightly, but it's well deserved in this case. This is a solid choice for coffee and breakfast.
Update: After four years of continued success ordering here at J&M I’m still in love with their scrambles. Every time I order it it’s new and uniquely delicious. I can’t speak highly enough about the quality of the food and the staff. This is everything you want in a local cafe. If you haven’t already eaten here, you’re not going to be...
Read moreAwesome little diner in the east Portland/Buckman area been around for years, although seems to have changed hands but you'd never really know it. Small place and is popular, so there can be a wait at peak times on weekend. Food is consistently good, service has always been friendly and coffee is top shelf! Note: coffee and water is self serve from the bar, so don't sit around thinking someone is gonna bring it; pick your mug from the "mug post" and pour up endless refills. Mgmt. prefers payment with cash to keep costs down, but they now will accept credit cards if that's what ya got. On pleasant days they will open the large windows of this old warehouse type building, making it nice and breezy. Parking can be tough sometimes as it's just a block off Grand Ave. Love this place, I...
