Sat, Jan 18, 2025..I rode the TriMet MAX light rail from Beaverton to the "Library/ 9th Ave" stop, which is where I wanted to go, so as to spend a few hours doing research at the main Portland city Library, but I was wanting a cool beer and a burger. The time was near 4pm, and I saw the Virginia Cafe's sign across the street..I remembered it was a wonderful dive bar, when I last visited 5 years before..so I went inside, happy hour was indeed starting at 4pm..so I ordered a local favorite beer, an IPA called Boneyard, and from the happy hour menu, I chose the "burger and fries"..ten minutes later, the bartender delivered this meal..it was superb. Even the fries were thin, bit properly golden..not an overly crisp fry in the bunch. The dill dip supplied was fresh and added a piquant touch..overall, one of the best happy hour burger/fries experiences I've had yet...did I mention the burger/fries was only $10...if you want a dive bar with old wooden grace and ambiance, great bar menu, and a tiny VP area, too *4 machines..not my thing, but I'd come here with my friend who is a Navy vet and video poker jedi..😋..seriously, Virgina Cafe is one of the best dive bars...
Read moreWe absolutely love the cheers atmosphere and the food and drinks! Dean made us feel as if we were regulars. We felt nothing but love. We didn't get to ask the names of the other workers and the cook but definitely compliments to the chef and the others. We met two other ladies. I don't want to misspell your names but you know who you are! Thanks for the love and support and laughs that we shared. We will definitely come check out the AC when we return to Portland for business or even if we come just for personal reasons. You all were awesome. I actually place this establishment as #1! If I could rate you a million Stars I would! I recommed everyone to check out the place. Their amazing!! There's so much going on around us and in the world. This place takes your thoughts away while you're there. Please go see...
Read moreThe Virginia Cafe is what you would expect from a dive bar. The people are a mix of some rough customers to business people. The food is decent, nothing exceptional but not bad. You can totally have a meal and feel satisfied but not have a dish that you would go out of your way to get. The staff, they're not rude, but they're definitely not going to yell Norm if you walk through the door. They do their job, and nothing more. Without said, I frequently stopped but usually stay less than a half hour. It's really not one of those places that you want to stay in linger. It's more about just grabbing a drink and some food and moving on. If I have visitors coming from town I do not say that this is the place to go, but it is a place that I feel comfortable using...
