My recent stay at the Hyatt Centric Portland Downtown left me thoroughly impressed from the moment I stepped through the doors. The check-in process was a breeze, thanks to the amazing customer service provided by the staff. They were welcoming, efficient, and went above and beyond to ensure that every need was met.
Upon entering my room, I was immediately struck by the sense of comfort and luxury it exuded. Opting for a suite was definitely worth it, as the spacious layout and plush furnishings provided the perfect retreat after a long day of exploring the city. The bed, in particular, was a highlight – incredibly comfortable and adorned with soft linens that guaranteed a restful night's sleep.
However, I couldn't help but notice that the room was a bit too dimly lit for my liking. While it added to the cozy ambiance, it made it somewhat challenging to work or read comfortably, especially in the evening. Additionally, the absence of a dedicated workspace or desk was a minor inconvenience, as I had to make do with alternative seating options for any work-related tasks.
Despite these minor drawbacks, my stay at the Hyatt Centric Portland Downtown was elevated by the exceptional dining experience, particularly the breakfast spread. The variety and quality of food surpassed my expectations, with an array of delicious options to choose from – from freshly baked pastries to hearty breakfast classics, there was something to satisfy every palate.
Moreover, the latte coffee served at the hotel's café was nothing short of amazing. Crafted with care and precision, it provided the perfect pick-me-up to start the day or unwind in the afternoon.
However, one aspect that might deter some guests is the parking situation. Valet parking at the hotel is available for $55 per night, which can add up quickly for longer stays. Alternatively, guests have the option to park overnight at a parking lot next to the hotel for $35 per night, or at a lot one block away for $18. It's worth noting that for the latter option, guests must move their car by 9 am, which may not be ideal for everyone.
Furthermore, the hotel's central location made it incredibly convenient for exploring Portland's vibrant downtown area. With numerous attractions, dining options, and shopping destinations within walking distance, I found myself easily immersed in the city's bustling energy.
In conclusion, the Hyatt Centric Portland Downtown offers a memorable and enjoyable stay, characterized by outstanding customer service, comfortable accommodations, delicious dining options, exceptional coffee, and convenient access to the city center. While there were minor areas for improvement, such as the parking situation, they were overshadowed by the overall exceptional experience provided by the hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend it to fellow travelers looking for a luxurious retreat in the heart...
Read moreTLDR; By far the most disorganized and dissapointing Hyatt property to date. Overbilled by $100+, no recognition of benefits, lazy staff, no option for cleaning more often than every 3 days under the unrelated excuse of COVID-19 in summer 2022.
Staff: Mediocre at best. Slow to check me in, failed to give me the dog bowl, dog bed, etc. despite me listing my dog in reservation notes and in-person. I had to go back down to retrieve these items. I asked via their text service, twice, only for them to ignore me another 24+ hours. This is in addition to them not responding to my other message 2 days previous. No apology, they just don't like responding to guests I guess. I never had this issue at any other Hyatt property.
Room: Eh. As with any status program, I don't expect an upgrade but always appreciate one when available. I (Explorist) didn't get one and that's not a pro or con itself but I got placed by the housekeeping closet in the middle of the hallway which was not a great placement for the room I did pay for, seems like one of those rooms you'd give out via those third party unsold sites. My room had a coffee machine with no coffee (literally not one pod) yet oddly had creamer and sugar. Gotta love hot water with cream? Like mentioned earlier they didn't bother to stock the room with the basics or the daily bottled water you get with Explorist. The amount of times we had to keep going down to fix what they forgot...eyeroll.
Location: Great location! Quite a bit of street parking in the area for a free or cheap rate. Interestingly I parked a number of feet away from where they charge a much higher fee for their "valet" spots.
Billing: Charged me twice for a pet fee, plus taxes on a two night stay. Per their website, the fee gets charged once on stays that this falls under. I don't mind the pet fee, but please just follow your own rules and bill me accurately. Now I have to contact them, again, to fix their errors, again. I'd be embarrassed if I created this much rework for my customers to have to clean up.
I mainly stay at the Hyatt Regencies and Grand Hyatts where I never have this subpar level of an experience - not sure if it's a Hyatt Centric thing or if this property is just a dud but I'm staying far away from this location (and Centric brand as a whole) just to be safe.
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to set an alarm to call their billing department tomorrow since the staff here managed to go two days without ever successfully doing their job. Get it together...
Read moreI wasn't sure about the Hyatt at first, because I had never stayed here before and our room floor was pretty dirty, and the bathtub was a little dirty, but literally everything else here was absolute perfection that it 100% made up for it!!! I will list all the positives of the Hyatt Centric that warrant a 5 ⭐️ review...
*Beds were very clean, soft pillowtops and fluffy feather pillows. I literally have to find out where they got these pillows!!
*I thought FREE breakfast meant some kind of continental service, but it includes the restaurant breakfast and the food at their restaurant is incredible! I have traveled to many places, and it is by far the BEST avocado toast I have EVER had, toasted on perfectly thick, dense quality bread, fresh perfectly ripe avocado with no bruises, organic microgreens, pickled peppers and perfectly poached eggs. (The cook knows how to prepare food WELL, which is a gift and does not go unnoticed) and the coffee is quality too..but the food is deeeeelicious here! Better than a 5 star Vegas hotel. Please tell the restaurant manager this cook deserves a raise. *Best part of it all was Cassandra at the front desk is the friendliest person! My husband and I cannot say enough about her positive vibes strait away, she is a total ray of sunshine!! Such a sweet human, and very accommodating. This is how good customer service should be, and is very rare to get these days. She truly turned my mood around.... *Cassandra also mentioned the Hyatt donates linens to the Portland Zoo (where we are taking our kids today) so they are obviously a wonderful hotel chain who cares about animals. We do a lot of charity work with our businesses, so this means soooo much that they do this!! 🙌 *The rainshowers are awesome and they have an extra shower head for getting your feet clean, etc. *This hotel is dog friendly. (We wish we would've brought our little dog).
Bottom Line-100% above & beyond for the price. Pack a small bottle of disinfectant & wet wipes if you're a clean freak like me and everything else you will be beyond...
