Shelby, the Front Desk Manager, pounded on my room door the second day of my stay [similar to that of a police officer]while I had a business contact in my room. Apparently she “misunderstood” and accused me of “squatting” /over staying without payment for a second night. However, the stay had been paid in full and Shelby was incorrect and acted totally inappropriate and triggered my PTSD / causing me to have tremors for hours after.
After this embarrassing incident [shocking to be honest considering my Lifetime Titanium Status w/Marriott Bonvoy] Shelby apologized and the night was comped and I felt that was fair and was not going to mention Shelby’s abhorrent behavior to Marriott Corporate.
Today, after booking a new reservation with the same hotel directly [Easter Sunday], I booked a corner queen room as I saw available on the Marriott website. However, Tim at the front desk said that if I wanted to stay in the hotel, I must stay in the same exact room. 😳 FYI - They are not sold out.
I asked for the Front Desk manager and Shelby called my room. Long story short, Shelby, communicated that the websites inventory was not accurate and that I “needed to stay in the same room”. I inquired what would happen if I was John Smith coming from the airport and I booked the Forest Suite [their presidential level suite] expecting to host a reception tonight in the room, Shelby said it was “not available” and they couldn’t accommodate the reservation. At this time, both Shelby and I had remained calm, no one was raising their voice and we were speaking in normal professional business tones so thus was left blindsided when in the same even tone we had both been speaking that Shelby said “you have one hour to vacate the property as we are not going to be able to host you moving further starting now” [Easter Sunday at 5pm] even tho I had paid for a reservation in full via Hotels Tonight for tonight and had made a new reservation for the exact room category I had wanted; corner queen at a more expensive rate.
Totally inexplicable and the lesson to be learned is that at the Moxy Portland, Oregon, you are not to request to change rooms late in the day (even if they are not busy), and don’t ever attempt to convey a disagreement with what they have ordered you, the “guest” to comply with. Customer service is an unknown concept; even those with Bonvoy Lifetime Titanium status and accompanying card made of titanium.
🚫⚠️do not stay here if you value being treated like a human being much less a “valued bonvoy guest” as elite status holds zero weight with management of this franchised property.
Both Tim & Shelby told me with raised voices that I “WAS NOT TO QUESTION THEM” = 😳
This property lost my revenue and without question Shelby costs the property tens of thousands a month in lost revenue and by failing to teach customer service but how can she when she fails to grasp the concept herself as the front...
Read moreMy recent stay at Moxy Portland Downtown was a mixed experience, leading to a three-star rating. While the hotel had some positive aspects, there were areas that fell short of expectations.
The location of Moxy Portland Downtown is convenient, situated in downtown Portland with easy access to local attractions, restaurants, and shops. Its proximity to public transportation options is a plus for exploring the city. However, the surrounding area can be lively, resulting in occasional noise disruptions that may impact the quality of sleep.
The accommodations at Moxy Portland Downtown were modern and stylishly designed. The rooms had a contemporary flair and were relatively clean. However, the space was compact, and the lack of storage options made it challenging to comfortably settle in during an extended stay. Additionally, the lack of amenities, such as a mini-fridge or coffee maker in the room, was disappointing.
The service at Moxy Portland Downtown was friendly and efficient. The staff members were welcoming and responsive to inquiries, creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, there were instances where the level of attentiveness could have been improved, particularly during busy periods when there seemed to be a lack of staff available.
The dining options at the hotel were limited, with a small bar area offering a limited menu. While the concept of a more casual and social atmosphere is commendable, the lack of variety and substantial food options might not suit all guests' preferences. Exploring nearby restaurants might be a better choice for those seeking a more extensive dining experience.
The hotel's amenities were relatively basic. While there was a fitness center available, it was small and lacked a variety of equipment. The common areas, such as the lobby and communal spaces, had a trendy and lively vibe but lacked comfortable seating options for relaxing or working.
One area that could be improved is the cleanliness of the hotel. Although the rooms were relatively clean, there were instances where common areas and corridors appeared untidy and in need of more frequent maintenance.
In conclusion, Moxy Portland Downtown offers a trendy and convenient stay in downtown Portland. While the modern design and friendly service are positive aspects, the compact rooms, limited amenities, and occasional lack of cleanliness were drawbacks. Depending on individual preferences and priorities, there may be other hotels in the area that offer a more comfortable and...
Read moreTL;DR for the Moxy: this is not your average family hotel, and generally I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking to have a family vacation in Portland. That being said, it was exactly what we were looking for: a comfortable room with a great location, cool vibe, and a cozy room.
We did have some issues when we first checked in: the air conditioning would not allow us to adjust the temperature up or down. I was too tired to bring it up the first night, and the weather in Portland meant the room was a comfortable temperature, but the next day I did ask the front desk who quickly resolved the problem with the thermostat. I have to admit, the service at this hotel was phenomenal, and everyone there knew how to help both with things related to our stay and just our daily question about Portland. They were our go-to for questions about how to get to the airport and where to go in town.
The rooms were very comfortable despite their small size, and I felt that they definitely put thought into the layout of everything. Moxy hotels feature a "stash" closet on every floor for extra towels and toiletries, which is substantially better in my opinion than having to go to the front desk. The showers were also very nice and provided good water pressure and never-ending hot water. The TVs in each room are also very smart, and have options for Netflix and YouTube built right in, so long as you have subscriptions to those services that require one.
There's plenty of food options around the hotel, including both chains and a food court nearby called "Flock," so even the pickiest of eaters can find something to love. The one complaint I do have is the lack of an in-room microwave for late-night leftovers. Still, we never needed a microwave during our stay, and there is one available in the lobby as well as frozen pizzas and dining options right there for you.
Unfortunately, after a six-hour flight on a Southwest Airlines jet, I neglected to take pictures of the room before we settled in, so I'll defer to others who took photos. One review mentions that the walls are thin, and while we did notice the loud rumblings of the TriMet trains and streetcars, they didn't really bother us on the sixth floor. We also didn't notice the sounds of other guests at all during our stay, so while I can't completely discount their complaints, I also think the inclusion of a white-noise machine in every room helps a lot with any...
