Warning . This is a long post .It was a rainy day and I had reservations at Brigantine Poway.. The first clue that things were not going to go well is when I checked in and she told me all there was left was outside seating... Did I mention it was raining?? I politely told her my reservations were made specifically for indoor seating so the offer of outdoor seating in the RAIN was a non-starter..She looked annoyed and told me fine... She then proceeds to seat me in the WORST seat in the house.. the area of the restaurant is saved for patrons that had too much to drink and are waiting for their Uber. The area that is so far off there aren't any other tables nearby. That part of the restaurant where the tiles don't match the other parts of the restaurant. The seats where my view is of a portion of behind the bar floor that is filthy and littered with food scraps.. Yes.. those seats... I surveyed the scene and asked the hostess if there was other seating that didn't feel like 1960 segregation seating in the south. She stared blankly and said I don't know and left me there. Advice for the manager of Brigantine... NEVER seat a guest in these seats.. Have some cultural and social awareness and never seat your ONLY black patron (at that time) in these seats.. Trust me.. It is triggering and just poor service. After 5-10 mins another table was opening up as the guest were leaving. I asked the hostess to be moved to this new table and she said yes...just go sit there.. ummm ... I had to remind her THAT WE ARE DEALING WITH COVID!! Can I get the tables cleaned first? No response again and I just asked a bus person to wipe down the table and I moved my menu and water myself to the new table. The only reason I stayed was because I was meeting a friend for lunch and the roads were bad and she was almost there. The next parts of my luncheon weren't that much better. Drinks took 25 mins, apps took 40 mins, food was fish and chips ...fries weren't cooked through... Our server tried her best and apologized that the kitchen was slammed... I could tell she was just covering plenty of tables and came by when she could. Bottom line is I would Never eat here again..Advice to the manager of Brigantine Poway.. Get a new hostess and get rid of your Jim Crow'esque seating. Don't offer to seat people in the rain when they reserved indoor seating.. when a meal takes 90 minutes to come out of the kitchen you should acknowledge that with your patrons. Most importantly make sure your hostess knows about your covid cleaning policies and have her adhere...
Read moreMy wife and i have been going to Brigantine in Poway for a long time and it has rarely dissapointed. But there have been two specific incidences that have given us reason to now not go back. We are huge oyster fans and our first visit was amazing so we became regulars. Over time we learned exactly the type of oysters we wanted and on a visit a year ago we asked for a certain type and were given something obviously different. We assumed they made a mistake and sent it back and recieved a new plate. The new plate seemed correct so we indulged in our oysters. We ate one each and they tasted fine but on the second mynwige suddenly spit out her oyster in digust and proceeded to have to go to the bathroom and extracate it from her stomach. I looked at the shell and gave it a smell and that smell didnt leave my nostrils or my fingers for days. It was completely rotten. I went to the manager and showed her the oyster and she said it must have been an accident, to which i replied that a competent oyster chef could never serve something like that unless they were acctualy incompatent or did it on purpose amd either way they should not be serving shellfish because they could kill someone. We let it go and took a break for a while and then gave them another chance. Once we came back everything was stellar for quite some time until today. We asked for a plate of our favorite oysters amd to my great dissapointment i watched the chef pull prechucked oysters from the fridge amd put them on the plate. I thought maybe they had just chucked them and they would be fine, but once tasting them i quickly realized they were quite old and completely ruined. We tried to eat a couple more but couldnt stomach them. We asked our server to take them back and.explained why amd she.put in new order and said they would be chucked fresh. Sitting near the oyster bar we noticed that the chef noticed that we sent them back and instead of wondering what was wrong and trying to solve the issue she just looked at us with anger an proceeded to send out another plate of prechucked oyster of which multiplemwere rotten. We decided then that the staff of brigantine poway did not have the best interest of the business at the forfront of their work ethic and it was just not worth risking our health anymore for questionable food. Most of the food is very good but beware of the...
Read moreSo disappointed! We usually go to the La Mesa Brig. And it has been great every time. It was our Anniversary so we wanted to go to a different location to change things up, but due to a softball tournament we made late reservations. The one in Coronado was booked so we decided to go out to Poway. I booked online and stated it was our anniversary. We arrived on time and was seated right away, in the very back corner of the restaurant. It was very dark, not like La Mesa where it’s very open, bright and beautiful. We were provided menus but no one came to take our drink order. It was at least 10-15 minutes before we were acknowledged. The waiter finally came over and apologized and took our drink order. It took another 15 -20 minutes for him to bring our drinks back. And when he did, he asked if we needed a few minutes to order and he was about to walk away again, but we said , no we were ready to order. He asked what we would like? I had to ask if there were any specials. He said yes and proceeded to read the specials. We went ahead and ordered. He came back a bit later and we asked if he was going to bring the salad or was he bringing it with dinner. He said before dinner. He then left again and came back with a salad. I asked don’t you have the sour dough bread here? He said yes you want bread? I can get some for you. Now mind you La Mesa brings bread to the table after you are seated. A yummy fresh baked sourdough mini round loaf. He brought back two brown rolls and two I think sourdough rolls in a basket. When we got the bill later we found he charged us 8.00 for the bread. NEVER are we charged separately for the bread at La Mesa. Then we received our dinner. The food was just not good and we just felt like our waiter didn’t even care we were there. He was giving free desserts to tables around us for birthdays but didn’t even acknowledge it was our anniversary even though my husband had said something when he first came to the table. My advice NEVER go to Poway Brigantine. Very disappointed. Go to La Mesa, service and food is soooo...
