Rarely do I write a negative review, as I spent years working in the restaurant industry and have a lot of patience and understanding when it comes to all things service related- but nevertheless I was so disappointed with our recent and very brief experience at Julian's. We (a party of three) went to eat breakfast/brunch at 9:15am on Sunday morning. The hostess was quite short with us, and said we could either sit at a large, round table meant for SIX people or a table outside (unfortunately the only outside tables available were directly in the sun). I noticed there were three smaller tables in the back of the restaurant (3 two-tops) that were open. The hostess said if we didn't want the big round table or outside seating we'd have to wait. We agreed to wait and sat outside. Soon after a nice server came out and said if we wanted to try to squeeze at one of the two-person tables in the back (which still had nobody at them) we could do that instead of wait. We thanked him for trying to accommodate us and followed him to the three two-person tables in the back. However we realized it was impossible to fit three people (one of us was 6'3"!) at a table made for two people. Not to mention we were each planning to order full meals- and there was no way the food and drinks would fit on the tiny table. We asked if we could move two of the tables together to create a four-person table that would actually fit us. The server seemed unsure if this could be done and went to check. Meanwhile, another server came over to take our drink order. After our drink order was placed, we were informed we could NOT put the two tables together (although there was still nobody at any of the three back tables and the restaurant does not take reservations!) It also didn't add up that we could sit at a six person table, with three empty seats, but a four person table with a single empty seat was no bueno. The entire experience was a complete cluster and disappointment- we ended up leaving and won't be back. There's plenty of friendlier breakfast/brunch options in Rhode Island; no need to be...

This hipster joint in the heart of Providence is a great little dive brunch spot that is oozing with character. The menu is pretty broad offering options for carnivores and herbivores alike all the while providing a comfortable ambiance.
We arrived around 10AM on a Friday morning and the place was still packed for a work day (a testament on how good this place is.) Parking is all street parking but that was too hard to find - I had parked about a block away and had walked over. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before our table was readied. I liked that I was able to give the number in my party and if any special requirements were necessary (high chair, etc.) and they were great on following up with all the accommodations. If it were a bit warmer, we may have sat outside, but I'm glad we went with the indoor seating - warm and cozy.
For my order, I chose the black bean burger with the honey mustard glaze. I added jalapenos to the dish to give it that extra kick. What a delight! I'm not a big fan of honey mustard, and I even asked the waitress to see if there was a different glaze they can add on instead. She assured me that the glaze was actually tastier than it sounds and I should take a chance - I'm glad I followed her advice :)!
The prep time was average, but definitely well done! The portion was huge (which I didn't mind), and I ended up taking half of it for later. I was pleasantly surprised how well the glaze complimented the burger and the jalapenos definitely helped satiate my appetite. I was also sipping coffee with brunch and I really enjoyed it! Not sure what brew they use, but I tend to only take a few sips before coffee gets too cold. I ended up finishing my whole mug and the staff were kind enough to refill it for a second helping!
Really enjoyed the time here, from the service, to the food - great way to...
Read moreI usually hate giving bad reviews to small businesses, but this was one of the weirdest breakfast/brunch experiences I’ve ever had. My girlfriend drove half an hour to try this place, and we’re very excited that there were vegan options for us to indulge in.
We walk in, and the host told us it would be a five minute wait or so. Not a big deal at all, I’d even wait longer for some great food. We are then told that we have to wait outside in the freezing cold (it’s late December and 25 degrees out), because it’s “company policy.”
Right off the bat, very off putting and the host was not the best with customer service as a whole. We sit down, very excited to eat after being extremely cold for almost 10 minutes and our car parked quite a ways away.
We go to order, and I was SHOCKED by how high the prices were for the Benedict’s. Typically, a good Benedict is around $13-17 dollars. Their cheapest one was $20, and the one that I wanted was $24 for a 2 egg Benedict.
We get the water at our table, and the water SMELLED bad. You’d think that a place that charges such a high price for their food would at least invest into decent filtered water, not low quality tap water.
I think that the absolute worst part of the experience was the vibe of this place. Without exaggeration, they were playing horror movie music in this place, and had a very off putting art piece on their back door I was facing that looked demonic, and ruined any chance of a good experience.
Our waiter was okay at first, until the decided to stop checking in on us when we were done eating some pretty sub par food. They instead decided to sit at the bar playing on their phone and another waiter ended up checking us out.
Overall, again, I hate giving bad reviews in general. However, this was just unpleasant in every imaginable way, and I do not recommend anyone...
