Not the same Scialo’s anymore. I have ordered all of my family’s cakes, including my wedding cake, from Scialo’s. The former owner’s Facebook page has some photos of my previous orders. I ordered my children, back in October, elaborate Bluey and Bingo cakes for their birthday (full bodies). 5 days before their birthday, at 5:30 at night, I received a call from the bakery that they did not have a cake decorator, and hadn’t for over 2 weeks. They asked that I scale back the cakes for their junior cake decorator- I did. The former owner, who is a manager for the new owners, assured me that the junior cake decorator was confident she could make my new cakes. This is what I received (note: one of the 2 cakes shown). I ordered 6 inch cakes and they charged me $165 for this amateur work. When I stated I was dissatisfied and couldn’t believe they were charging me full price when I did not receive a professional cake, one of the girls from behind the counter told me that she thought her “colleague didn’t a great job”. The other told me it was “good enough for 4 year olds”, and if I “didn’t like it, [I] could leave it…. ON THE DAY OF THE PARTY! To add insult to injury, they charged me for a loaf of bread I needed. I will not be back.
Update: I heard from the former owner today and received my money back. However, I am still very disappointed with how the bakery handled this. They seems to be blaming the pandemic (can’t get a cake decorator) and the age of their counter staff for the...
Read moreFirst, let me clarify that this bakery is in Providence not Cranston. The bakery is located in Providence's Little Italy area of Federal Hill. Scialo's is on Atwells Avenue which is the main road through this area of Providence. Having been to Italy many times, the last time was June 2018, I can honestly tell you that this place, the minute you walk through the front door, reminds you of being in Italy. The pastries are old world style, authentic recipe delights. They are somewhat pricey but I have to gladly admit that they are worth the price. You are getting supremely high quality baked good as no corners are ever cut here, period. The building has an early 1900's design which only adds to the charm. They also have their own gated parking lot which is great as Atwells Avenue can be very busy and often difficult to find a parking spot. Another grat feature of this bakery is its location which is in the heart of Providence's Little Italy area so there are lots of fine shops, resturants, and various other attractions nearby, all within walking distance. If you ever in Providence please do yourself a favor and visit Scialo's, you...
Read moreScialo Brs is an excellent bakery. Having shopped around extensively for quality deserts, theirs are the best that I have found in the greater providence area. The prices are fairly good, and very reasonable for what you are getting. I would particularly recommend trying the chocolate raspberry cream cheese tort (though i'm usually not a huge fan of rasp. choc. things, they don't over do it... must try), the cream rolls, the rum cake, and the little chocolate cherry silver dollar shaped things which I always forget the name of.
Be aware that there is no sit down area. The bakery is a bakery only, and you will have to go somewhere else to munch. If it's nice out, DePasquale Plaza will do. If you want a sit down experience go to pastiche around the way, where you will be charged more for what you get, and be provided with the full sit down experience.
Do not be fooled by the fact that there are two other Scialo bakeries in the greater providence area, these other's are owned by a relative, but are not in any way related (business wise). I would not put those other bakeries into the same...
