Birrieria El Chivo Tapatio — Restaurant in Proviso Township

Birria has been my childhood favorite. from my family having it religiously every other weekend to discovering it on a roadside stall in Mexico when I was young. Either way I’ve been chasing the high of having incredible birria for a while. El chivo tapatio without a doubt has shattered what is possible outside of the city and outside Mexico. The deep and rich consome bring me back to my childhood paired with the sumptuous and tender goat meat makes my mouth water just writing this. The food on its own warrants merit but the service is why I wrote this review. From the moment I walked in we were greeted by staff including the faceless chef in back and served promptly and patiently. When scarfing down taco after taco the lovely waitresses came by asking if I wanted a refill BUT not of my drink but of the godly golden consome. The attentiveness and kindness from the workers there really pushed forward the thought that they love what they do and care about their craft. The experience I felt was reminiscent to my own mother asking me if I had everything I needed. After not being able to take another bite they kindly packed my leftovers with more consome and again thanked and asked to come again by the staff akin to a traditional ramen shop. This is the place for Birrieria and Barbacoa. My husband and I went here for a quick bit, but it got us hooked. I ordered the large barbacoa plate and he ordered the large birrieria. Lete tell you the portion was enormous, and the flavors were amazing. They topped both palates with onion and cilantro, but I ordered extra since I love my cebollas and cilantro. We also got a large tortilla warmer filled with tortillas. It was a great paring to the plates. Halfway through our meal, the woman came out and refilled our consome back to the top. I thought I was an extra charge, but it was free. We then ordered a quesabirria to split it between us as we were getting filled with our food. When the quesabirria came out it was filled with tons of meat and cheese. The crispy tortilla shell dipped in the consome hit the spot. This is a great place with amazing food. THE TALACHONES (Birria Quesatacos) ARE AMAZING!!! I was referred to this place by a coworker and I am so glad I now know of this place. I have now been there numerous times. Whether you order the tray of talachones (available weekends) or the talachones dinner, know that it comes with the consomé ("dipping sauce"), side of lettuce/tomato, and grilled onions (sooo good). These questacos are flavorful and the meat is well seasoned. The quesatacos also pretty stuffed with meet and cheese! You definitely get a bang for your buck!
