Carnitas Don Alfredo Melrose Park — Restaurant in Proviso Township

The carnitas were delicious, as well as the guacamole, rice, & beans, but our order missed the jalapeño peppers (only the grilled onions came with the order) and the hand-made tortillas (5 packs of 5 each). We also did not get any hot sauce (don’t know if they give any with your order of carnitas, but they used to in the past). Our order was for Father’s Day, & I had preordered and paid the full amount when I placed the order on Friday evening, since my daughter was going to pick it up. Once the food arrived, we started setting it up, & realized that no tortillas, hot sauce, or jalapeño peppers had arrived. I immediately called the restaurant, & was told by the lady who picked up, that she had gotten my order ready but was not in charge of adding the tortillas. I asked for a credit, & she said she couldn’t since she didn’t have my credit card: I told her they accepted my card over the phone when I ordered it. She then unapologetically said that they were too busy, that I needed to come by the restaurant for a credit AND they would also give me the tortillas. I live by O’Hare and wasn’t able to come until today. I get to the restaurant and tell them that I’m here for the tortillas and the credit BUT since I didn’t have the name of the lady with whom I had spoken on Father’s Day, it took them about a half an hour to contact the manager AND they finally gave me the tortillas they owed me, and not the money (the lady that was making the tortillas was very rude & insulting, telling the cashier that it was very late already, to tell me to return tomorrow!! It was 8pm, & they close at 10pm). As good as their carnitas are, I’ll be going to Cilantro’s from now on. BEYOND unprofessional. DO NOT order catering from here. It’s a shame the food is great but the service is NOT. We ordered catering for 12:30 pick up and when my husband arrived they said someone else had picked up my large order. They asked what the last numbers on the card were so we questioned how they gave out our order if the other people didn’t have our card number. Complete lie - they forgot about our order. Our party started at 1pm and because of their negligence our guests didn’t eat until 3pm. To top it off, the beans weren’t secured correctly because they rushed out the order. Half of the beans spilled in the car and when I called to ask if they were going to replace the tray they tried to blame my husband and outright said no. You would think being TWO HOURS late on my order they would at least have the decency to give me another tray. Guys! The carnitas are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! 5/5 stars for the food. I’ve been coming here for over 2 years and not once have they missed with the flavor. You will NOT be able to taste carnitas the same after trying this place (debatable for others, not for me though)!

It is definitely a very very busy place on Sunday’s but the line moves along. The most you’ll wait is like 15 minutes.

You definitely get the feeling the food is going to hit by how authentic the food looks on their menu + when you see the señoras making the tortillas a mano!

I have tried several other places for carnitas in the Chicagoland area, but none like these!
