First let me say I have been here dozens of times. I’ve always been pleased with the experience, until now. To start, the waitress was inattentive and rather rude. Ok, so we can deal with that. Next, my 10 year old got about 1/2 way through his first pancake and said “there’s something wrong with these”. My 17 year old tried them and immediately spit out his bite into a napkin. Now for those of you who have boys, you’ll probably agree this is highly unusual behavior as they are typically classified as “Eatamus-anythingess”. We can hardly keep enough food in the house so when the older spits it out, it must be bad. I informed the waitress as I assumed they must have used some bad milk or something and I didn’t want any other patron getting sick. We sent the plate back and the 10 year old didn’t want anything else because his stomach hurt. When we finished our meal. We waited at least 10 minutes for the bill, and then another 10 to get through the line at the register to pay. When we finally got up to the counter, I asked the owner (presumably as I’d seen her every time I’d been in) if the waitress told her about our issue. She said no. I then explained what had happened and she simply stated she had just eaten the pancakes and there was Absolutely Nothing wrong with them. I asked her politely to take them off the nearly $60 dollar bill. Not unreasonable in my mind as they couldn’t have been but a couple dollars. I was willing to pay for the entire meal but those. She began to argue with me as if I had asked for the entire meal free and $100 for my trouble. She was quite adamant (and rude) as she insisted that there was “Nothing Wrong With The Pancakes!” I finally had to tell her I’d been there dozens of times with great food and service, but if she didn’t take off the $2.00 for the bad food, I’d never be back. With a huge huff, a roll of the eyes, and sighing the entire time she keyed in the discount, she finally relented. Thank you so much for making me feel like I was at fault and a horrible person for not wanting to pay for a single item that was obviously bad. Not only that, staring at me with accusing eyes like I couldn’t afford the $2.00. Really lady?!? So now I will never return and will be happy to tell anyone and everyone of my experience. Not a good way to run...
Read moreEverything about our stop at the Pantry was top-notch! The waitstaff was attentive, quick, and friendly. Our family of 5 ordered from all over the breakfast menu -- a Denver Omelet, the breakfast burrito with salsa verde, the Bruncho (a sopapilla stuffed with eggs, bell peppers, green chilis, and onions and topped with the same pork salsa Verde), French toast, and a standard diner breakfast with over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast.
There wasn't a weak point in the meal. The pork salsa verde that covered the burrito and sopapilla, at first glance, was a strange brown color that looked more like a standard diner gravy, but once we tasted it, all fears dissolved. It was peppery, with just enough spice to help us wake up from a late night arrival to our hotel in Pueblo. The pork in the salsa was fork tender and so generous in quantity that it could've been a stand alone dish. The French toast was just right, and the sides of bacon delivered with our meals were huge helpings of thick rashers. The omelet was filled with all kinds of veggies goodness and big chunks of ham. Our cups were constantly filled, and extra napkins were delivered quickly to our messy daughter who went overboard with the syrup.
Perhaps the most impressive thing, amongst all the delicious food, was the ever present owner checking in on customers, and the expedient nature of the bussers and waitstaff immediately cleaning and sanitizing the tables the SECOND that guests would leave. We were standing at the register complimenting the owner/manager on her staff and her food, and the cleaning crew had already cleared our table and were spraying and wiping it down for the next set of eager diners.
Our highest marks go to this friendly, quick, delicious diner. Thanks for a...
