I should start by saying this was both a new experience and a return to an old favorite. I had previously visited this location a few years back and had come several times after because the food was good and it was near where I was living.
I had moved away over a year ago and was traveling to the area with a friend and decided to stop in for a bite to eat while we were in the area. When we arrived I learned that the location had new owners who were running the restaurant and that the menu looked a bit different. Below are my scores for the location, service, and food.
Location: 5/5
This location is near the South Hill Mall, but not in the mall which means traffic was not bad around the building. The tables were clean along with a clear menu of the specials and special lunch options. The seating had several options but provided good space between patrons so you could talk freely and enjoy your dinner without it feeling bunched together. The table menus were both clear and stated all items in each dish, and they included a lunch insert for specifically lunch options.
Service: 5/5
Our server was also the host, she was quick to greet us and got us to a table quickly. She provided menus and allowed us time to select our food, and seemed to return just when we needed her. She clarified for us, our very few, questions and offered us drink options. From taking the order to receiving the food was under 10 minutes with our appetizers arriving first and just as we finished them our main dishes came. She was attentive with providing water, but did not hover around the table. And, was very friendly and informative about items on the menu .
Food: 5/5
So I did come with expectations because I had enjoyed this locations food in the past, but I was not expecting to find my favorite Thai restaurant in the south sound area! Our order was an appetizer of chicken pot stickers, a Thai ice tea, an order of Pad Thai, and crispy garlic chicken.
The potstickers were very good with fresh tasting veggies and a semi sweet and salty sauce that blended perfectly together to create a cacophony of flavor.
The Ice tea was for my friend and he raved about how good it was to the point where I felt like maybe I missed out by not ordering one. It came in a tall almost milk bottle container that looked great and had quite the presentation with a rich orange color.
The Pad Thai was great! It was only a spice level two for us, but it provided great flavor a d just enough spice to feel a slight warm flavor as you eat. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the chicken was tender. The bean sprouts and carrots were all fresh and everything was hot and delicious from first bite to last.
Lastly, we have the crispy garlic chicken. I do not even know where to start... It was some of the best chicken I have ever had! Tender, with a crisp crust of garlic flavor that blends perfectly with a slightly sweet garlic sauce that was so good I wanted to drench the rice in it! I have been searching for a crispy garlic chicken in the south sound area since I went to a restaurant in West Seattle called Buddha Ruksa which has amazing garlic chicken, Bangkok Thai is now that restaurant!
Overall: 5/5
I think the above says it all, but I completely recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit! If you are looking for great flavorful food in the Puyallup area this has to be one...
Read moreOrdered from here on Doordash because I wanted to try their food. It was an absolute disappointment. I ordered 5 items. The Doordash driver came and just gave us 1 item which was noodles. At first, my boyfriend and I were like, "Umm...??? We ordered a lot more than this, and we also had drinks." The Doordash driver then tried to get everything sorted out for us because he said when he went to pick up our food, he asked them if they were sure this was all of the food. The server kept telling him that it was all of the items. So, the driver just thought that they put everything in one box.
Now, I know how these things work behind the scenes because I used to work in a restaurant. I know how the restaurant can make mistakes sometimes if we are really busy. I have never made this kind of mistake where they didn't give the customer FOUR ITEMS. I didn't even mention that the one food item I received wasn't even the noodles I ordered.
I think some of you will blame Doordash as well, which is true, it was 50% the driver's fault for not double checking the order. But it was also 50% the restaurant's fault for giving the driver the wrong order. Drivers never just randomly go and grab something. They always ask someone who works there for the pick up order. And I know some people assume delivery services such as Doordash, GrubHub, Postmates, etc, have something to do with the food, but they do not. All they do is pick up your food and deliver it to you. If there's anything wrong about your order, that is 100% the restaurant's fault.
I wish I had read the reviews for this restaurant BEFORE I placed an order because they apparently have been making a ton of mistakes for IN HOUSE orders not just take out orders. This is why it's safe for me to assume that it was just negligence on the restaurant for not double checking on their orders.
As for someone who's worked in the industry, I just find this place completely outrageous. I always double checked orders to minimize mistakes.
And here for the food review for the chicken + tofu pad thai that they gave me. I didn't even order this item, but since we got a full refund from Doordash and got to keep the food, I will rate their chicken + tofu pad thai. It honestly wasn't that good. The portion was ridiculously huge, and the noodles were pretty plain. I personally believe anyone who thinks it's good have never tried...
Read moreI don't know about the food, service or atmosphere of this place. I was very interested to try the food here until the incident that happened to my niece about a week ago. After this I will never come here and I want people to know what kind of people work/own this place. November 26th I received a call from my niece. Her car had overheated and broke down. She pulled into Bangkok Thai because it was the closest place for her to get the car off of the main road. It was dark, and she had her 2 year old daughter with her. She asked if I could pick them up and give them a ride home. I told her to make sure she let the business know that her car broke down and asked if she could park the car in their parking lot overnight and she would be back first thing in the morning to get the car. The person she spoke to told her that would be fine. My niece showed up at 9am in the morning to get her car and the car was gone! The lady who owns the place had it towed. They did not try to call, or get ahold of my niece to let her know they were going to have it towed, nothing. I understand people don't want broken down cars in their place of business, but if that had been a problem why not tell her no you can't keep your car here overnight and we could have worked on getting it out of their parking lot, and done something different. We thought it was safe until the morning. We are talking about a single mother who is having a hard time making ends meet have the only transportation she has taken from them. Needless to say. The tow bill was somewhere around $450 of which She does not have. I just feel like this was a ridiculous situation that could have been avoided by them just saying no, or giving her a giving her the courtesy of knowing that they were going to tow...
