My family and I stopped in for breakfast one Sunday morning while in Raleigh recently. The restaurant was empty with only two tables occupied. Whenever we sat down, it took a while for someone to come over to us. Like a while… We thought that was strange since it wasn’t even close to being busy there, but oh well. Our waitress that finally showed up was nice. She was loud and liked to talk whenever we actually saw her, which was only a few times the whole time we were there. She was sweet to our toddler and that was much appreciated as he is extremely talkative and most people do not appreciate his quirks. When we finally got our drinks, we ordered the biscuit beignets and it took some time for them to show up which was okay, but it was probably 30 or so minutes later whenever they finally appeared on our table. There were only 4 on the plate and they were barely warm. They were exceptionally dry and the orange marmalade was way too sweet to actually enjoy. The waitress told us that they were understaffed and that was why it took so long to get the 4 balls of dryness. Whenever we ordered our food, we sat for a really, really long time without seeing anyone come out to check on us or the other few tables. We sat with empty cups, not receiving a single drink refill outside of one coffee refill the whole time we were there. Whenever our food finally arrived, probably 45 minutes later, it was pretty much stone cold and none of us wanted to eat it. We picked at what we could and left the rest. Even the bacon was bad and that’s saying something. Come to find out, per the waitress, a manager managed to lock himself in the back office with a female employee, and the fire department had to come break them out of the room. The best part of the whole visit is when the fire department showed up and gave my son a cute fireman hat before they left. They were really awesome! Then when I went to go to the bathroom, it was absolutely disgusting in there and I was unable to actually go because of the state the bathroom/toilet was left in. That’s putting it nicely. Per the waitress again, apparently the manager had to go to the bathroom while he was locked in that room and then rushed into the bathroom once he was freed and I am purely assuming that he was the one that ruined the bathroom, because it was way too early in the morning for it to have been in that state from the few morning patrons they had… Unless the bathrooms just aren’t being cleaned at all before closing the night before, which could possibly be the case, but it smelled awful in there so I’m assuming that might not be the case. We paid our bill and gave the waitress a tip, even though she probably didn’t deserve it because of the lack of service, and we vowed that whenever we were back in Raleigh, we would find somewhere else to eat for breakfast. The poor quality food and bad experience were not worth the...
Read moreIt takes a lot to have me write a review for bad service, but I have time today. I ordered the southwest chop salad. I asked for no bacon and no turkey and to sub shrimp instead as it was an option on the menu. It took awhile for it to come out and the waitress went to check on it. A little more time went by and we stopped her again to check on my order. She comes back to say that they made it with chicken instead of shrimp and they were remaking it. Then it took more time for it to come out. We were wondering why it was taking so long to make a salad. When it finally came out it didn’t look appealing at all. Looked very basic, something I could have made at home. Iceberg lettuce, even though the menu said it was supposed to have romaine and spinach. The mushrooms were dry and to be honest looked like they weren’t properly washed. The black beans looked mushy, there were 5 very tiny baby shrimp just thrown on there, and some sliced tomatoes. No dressing. There was also suppose to be red onions and avocado in it, but didn’t get that either. I asked the waitress for dressing and then we were left waiting again. Finally another person at my table went to ask what was taking so long for the dressing and she said that they ran out of dressing and the manager was making more.
So clearly they didn’t have the necessary ingredients for this meal. If they had just said that from the beginning, it would have saved a lot of time. I could have ordered something else and it would have been no big deal. Instead I wasted 40 minutes of my time and left hungry. The waitress was apologetic and said they were short staffed, which I understand and I don’t blame her. There just wasn’t any type of communication. Whoever was in the kitchen making the order should have just said they didn’t have the ingredients. But to send out the salad with not everything stated on the menu and no dressing and think that the person was just going to eat it and not say anything? Very disappointed. We had asked to speak with the manager but he/she never came out which was even more of a slap in the face in my opinion. What better way to say you don’t want my business. I promise the message was received.
For what it’s worth, as I watched other tables get their meals, the pancakes looked really good. I just won’t be back to...
Read moreBefore I start, to be fair, we walked in 1 hour before closing. We loved the atmosphere of Another Broken Egg, but the service and the food was subpar today. This was our first time and I can honestly say that I seriously doubt we will be returning. Our waiter took our drink order, brought our drinks, then came back to take our food order and we didn't see him again until we were beyond ready to leave. Someone else quickly dropped off our food and left. As you can tell in one picture, my sausage was clearly burned. We were wanting a little extra syrup, but the waiter never returned and we aren't the sort of people to raise our voice in a restaurant in order to interrupt someone else who was so intent on leaving their shift that tables beside us were being moved around & swept under while we were eating. When our waiter returned to give us our bill we asked for carryout boxes and I explained how I was unable to eat at least half of my sausage because it was burnt. His reply was that he would try to get some to replace those pieces, but they were extra pieces anyway because I wasn't supposed to get that much sausage with my meal. (REALLY?🤔 That's a proper reply?) We had just returned from a physical therapy session and aren't ones to sit and talk until a restaurant closes because we know those people want to go home. Had we been checked on when our plates were delivered or even once after before delivering our bill I could have shown him the problem. The manager looked busy in one of the front booths by the bar/kitchen exit/wait station and didn't come by either so we couldn't inform him. I think there were 2or 3 top tables of people while we were there and a very nice patron that came in about 15 minutes before closing and sat at the bar to eat so they definitely were not busy. I used to be in the service industry, my children have been too, so I know how important their tips are. I HATED leaving a note on our bill telling this gentleman that had we seen him even once between someone delivering our food and him bringing our bill he would have received a much better tip that the lowest standard. 😒 I can say that the coffee he made me was wonderful. The food (even without the burnt sausage) was unimpressive. Sorry ABE! It just didn't...
