I have to say that I am completely blown away by Isaac Brennan experience. I've been going to Clockwork (affectionately known as Wheezy among my friends) since I moved to downtown Raleigh in 2016. In a word, the place is AMAZING! But I feel it necessary to respond to what I feel are ridiculous assertions made by Mr. Brennan. First and foremost, I’m a Black man, and I have never, and I do mean “never” have I been treated with anything other than the upmost respect by the staff at Clockwork. It should also be noted that the owner, Souheil, is a man of color himself (Lebanese). Not only has Souheil created an establishment in downtown Raleigh second to none, but the staff is not only respectful, they are engaging, funny, attentive, prompt, courteous and quick witted. I’m probably in Clockwork 3-5 times a week, great food, amazing drinks (I recommend the Old Fashion), superb staff – what’s not to like. As I am writing this, I am trying to think if I’ve ever had a bad moment in Clockwork… ah, I mean the Wheezy – the answer would be an unequivocal NO! Wait, there was that time when my salsa legs weren’t working and they were playing old school hip-hop… but that one is on me. Again, I don’t know about Mr. Brennan experience, but as a Black, with a lesbian niece, more than a few Jewish friends, some who happen to be… wait for it… gay, Mr. Brennan experience is as foreign to me as… huh, I don’t know, walking into Clockwork and finding the place promotes anti-semitic, anti-African American BS. Yeah, makes no sense to me. So go to Clockwork, I’m willing to bet that your experience will be more aligned with mine – friggin...
Read moreDecided to try this place on a kid-free Friday night recently. We were looking for a fun place in the Glenwood South area for a light dinner and drinks and this fit the bill. The menu is not large, but it is interesting and the food was good. We shared the Nachos Comacho and the Tri Me pizza. The nachos were awesome, not too heavy, good flavor, and really liked that they were made with black beans instead of refried beans. Gauc was also pretty tasty. The pizza was definitely "different" (read the description on their website). The pistachios were great, added a cool consistency and crunch which I've never experienced on a pizza before, and who doesn't love pistachios! The cream sauce, not a fan...had a bit of a Brie taste to it, and I'm not a fan of Brie. I liked the pizza, just not a fan of the cream sauce on this one. The location is pretty small, but it wasn't too busy, so no wait and not to crazy, but we were there a little early on a Friday (7:30pm). The front was completely open to the street, which was nice on a coolish Spring night. Mixed drinks were just ok, kinda pricey and too much ice. Overall, good food and atmosphere. Postitives: Good food, lively but not too loud, opens to the outdoors, nice atmosphere. Waitress was good. Negatives: Mixed drinks had too much ice and were a little pricey. One of the hostesses was a little...
Read moreI had been looking to visit this place for a while at it looked like a really nice place to have some drinks with friends. The manager (or whomever she was) and the doorman were EXTREMELY RUDE! We were sitting at a table with our drinks and all of a sudden a male and female walk up and say “Get your drinks” and proceeded to break down the table in front of us. We had no idea what was going on as they didn’t offer an explanation and when we asked the male rudely said “Ask the boss don’t ask me anything”. As it was our first time we didn’t know the table gets taken away after a certain time but my issue is how rude they both were and not to mention we almost got hit with the table as they were breaking it down. No excuse me…sorry we have to take it…nothing! We definitely will not be coming back. After reading some of the comments I’m seeing a trend on how they treat people of color. I will make SURE I spread the word this is not an inclusive place at all! It’s 2022 you would think things would be...
