I'm not really even sure where to start with this experience. So, I'll start with the positive. Most of our food was great. Filets were top notch, french fries were among the best I've ever had, sea bass was amazing. Lobster mac and cheese was meh. Creamed spinach was average, at best.
Now, let's talk about the overall experience. When I go to Ruth Chris and pay what it costs for 4 people to dine, my expectations are higher than when I go to a casual restaurant. We dined at RC on Mother's Day, which I understand is a very busy day for restaurants. However, everyone, including the management at RC knows when Mother's Day is. It didn't sneak up on them or catch them by surprise. Have an abundance of staff on hand that day to accommodate the extra customers. Don't let service falter because it's a busy day. Or, take fewer reservations to preserve the quality of service. But, don't let this happen...
We had a 6:45 reservation. We are sat by about 7pm. Ok, so far so good. But...we don't see our waiter until 7:15. It is 7:30 before we even get water. I ordered a glass of wine and my husband ordered iced tea and those arrived around 7:45. 45 min after sitting down, we get beverages. Appetizers arrive shortly after that and those are fine. No bread. I pour my son some water from a pitcher left on another table because there is nobody around to do it for us. We ask for bread. More waiting. Bread comes. More waiting. No apologies, no acknowledgement, just waiting. Entrees arrive (see above for review of food), are placed to the side of our table, but nobody puts them on our table. We can see our food, but we can't eat it. 5 min later, our waiter arrives and sees the food sitting there. He asks if we want it...umm, yeah, we want it. We're pretty ready for those entrees as this point (at least 8:40 by now). My filet was supposed to come with shrimp, no shrimp. Waiter notices that, says something about it, but I never did see that shrimp. My oldest son's lobster mac and cheese was dry and didn't have much lobster. It was his birthday today, in addition to Mother's Day, so that makes me sad because, obviously, I want my kiddo to have a great meal on his birthday.
My meal was supposed to come with dessert, but we're so ready to leave after eating, I ask for the check. More waiting. I go to the hostess stand where two hostesses and two men in suits are standing. I ask them to help me get my check. More waiting. Check comes. I am ready - give the waiter my card right away. More waiting. Man in suit comes out to check if we've received our check - I tell him we're still waiting to get the credit card back. More waiting. Finally, we pay our bill and leave.
At some point towards the end of this experience, the table beside us complains and has their entire meal comped. So, they don't get their lobster mac and cheese they ordered and their entire meal is comped? I'm not trying to say my meal should be free, but if I approach the hostess stand to try and figure out where my bill is, you should see that as a flag that things aren't going well and maybe ask me how the experience is. Maybe do that before I have the chance to come home and let you know, on Google, how the the experience went. I would have gladly told you in the restaurant what was going on, but nobody asked and nobody seemed to give two hoots.
There are a lot of steak restaurants in Raleigh,...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Ruth’s Chris in the area. I normally go to the Greensboro location because it’s closer, but since my family and I were in the area celebrating my parents anniversary we chose this location. I must say I was very disappointed in the quality of food. In comparison to my previous experiences at the Greensboro location I held all Ruth’s Chris restaurants to a very high standard. However, I’m ashamed that I even recommended this location for my parents anniversary, which was their first visit to Ruth’s Chris. The mash potatoes that two family members and I received were disgusting, there was a lack of seasoning, and required us to use a generous amount of salt. They had a raw taste to me as if the potatoes could have been cooked longer before being mashed and served. My sister’s mash potatoes actually came in a dirty dish that had to be sent back. It looked as if chocolate (something brown if not chocolate) from a dessert had not been fully cleaned out of the dish. My husband’s spinach was not creamy, they were very watery to be exact. He loved his steak, however the chicken that my sister and I received could have been better seasoned. I’ve previously had the exact dish at Ruth’s Chris in Greensboro and the food was phenomenal, no extra seasoning needed or complaints. I’ve also had the spinach before and that as well was exceptional. I’m not sure if this is an ongoing issue at this location, but we didn’t complain, we finished what we could, paid for our food and services and we simply will not return or recommend this location. The server was attentive initially, but that quickly became slacked. Overall, this was a horrible experience for my family’s first visit. I vouched for this restaurant and now I have to convince them to give Ruth’s Chris another chance at the Greensboro location. I have no desire to return and management really needs to tighten up on everything. For the prices you expect nothing but a great experience and food, and unfortunately my family and I didn’t...
Read moreDinner at Ruth Chris was ok. We went as a family which included my 17 year old son and 13 year old daughter. Overall the food was good and everyone enjoyed it but a couple of things set a bad taste in my mouth, if you will. Dinner for 4 with tip was just under 300.00. That is with water and soda, no alcohol. This was also no appetizers. Granite the steaks were very good, but the other things made me feel as I would never go back to this place again. The fire alarm went off 3 times. Wasn't sure to get up and leave or to sit there. Everyone just looked around. No one apologized and it was kind of weird. Also, the waiter left our drinks empty for better than 5 minutes a couple times. No one finished their drinks at same time and young kids drank faster than adults. Lastly, my sons steak, better than half was pure fat. Although he loved what was edible, a lot was fat.
I have been to some very nice restaurants that were as expensive +/-. However, really feel like I was robbed at this place. Normally, the waiter just waits on us or a couple tables, at higher end restaurants but ours would disappear for a while not to be seen. Then when we saw him it was like he was playing catch up. When he brought our steak fries that were 11.00 for 6, he dropped one on the table then picked it up with a fork and put it back on the plate. My wife and I looked at each other with that look of amazement. Thankfully this was just a dinner and we were not celebrating anything because I would have been embarresed. We have been to some pretty nice places that bring you a bowl to wash your fingers and sorbet bowls between courses to cleanse your pallet. This place unfortunetely just brought us disappointment and I was really hoping it was going to be nice. We probably won't be back to Ruth Chris anytime soon and we made reservations for Valentine's Day at...
