This was the first time I have been here since last year's Chinese Lunar New Year. Everything was great - food, service, ambiance. I really liked the Kung Pao Chicken, especially the generous portion of peanuts, where at Panda you are lucky to get one or two peanuts in any serving! However, it could have used a few more veggies than just celery to be more filling. Large pieces of chicken cooked to perfection. Great sauce. Just spicy enough.
However, one thing bothered me. With the bill, they left 3 cards offering "Free Lettuce Wraps" with an order. However, the offer is restricted to only 55 wraps each day. That means if you go for dinner, there could be none left. That's hardly an incentive to pull someone in more often than having no offer at all. In fact, as in my view, it could be a disincentive because it makes the restaurant look stingy with a "bait and switch" ploy because the allotment could always be gone. In any case, see you next Chinese Lunar New Year.
I had not been to this PF Changs since before Covid when I used to visit often with friends. It's always been a good place to get very good food in a nice, welcoming environment. This visit was as good as ever. I reserved a table for 6:30 pm online and received text messages keeping me updated on my upcoming reservation - - which was very helpful. Even though it was probably an automated response, it made me feel welcome and that they cared about their customers. . I brought a friend, originally from Hong Kong, to celebrate being able to go out to eat again. We arrived a little bit early but the hostess seated us very promptly. The waiter, Forrester (like the Subaru!) , came by very shortly to get us started with drinks. He was very nice, welcoming, and watchful and checked in with us often. (He was an excellent waiter!) We ordered the BBQ Spare Ribs and Pot Stickers for appetizers. Both were excellent and something I would definitely order again. For the main courses, we ordered Beef with Broccoli and Sweet & Sour Chicken. Both were cooked to perfection. The beef was tender and, unlike other places, really tasted like grilled beef. I'd order either of these dishes again because they were so good. After the appetizers and main courses, we were too full for dessert, but they had a very good selection to choose from. We ended up packing up a lot of food to go, because their portions were generous. We had a great time there and look forward to coming back soon! BTW, there is a huge mural above the kitchen area of a Chinese woman holding a Japanese saber with an inscription in Chinese. My friend translated it to: "Refuse to be mediocre" , in other words to be great unlike the competition. That sounds exactly what PF...
Read moreThough promptly seated, we waited at least 10 minutes before anyone attended to us. We immediately asked for water when we sat, but that wasn't going to happen. We also wanted to order a drink first, and then order dinner. A few more minutes pass and then we are greeted by a server and we get a drink order in, but still no water on the table. By about 20 minutes in to arrival we get an appetizer we'd ordered, but no water or cocktail. Poor timing, poor service already grating on us. Finally at about 30 minutes we get cocktails and finally, some water (there must be a water or a water glass shortage!). We explained that as diabetics, we needed about 15 minutes after taking insulin before we eat--it's a medical recommendation, not a fad or anything--so we ordered food, took insulin, and then after 20 minutes we ask about the main course. "It's on the way." Another 5 minutes and we're pretty late to begin eating, we are a little agitated about the delay, and our second query brings out a bit of testiness on the part of the server who, in a defensive manner, explains that "because of the diabetic issue, the order was pushed back..." WHAT? Yeah, you better start smiling, honey, because your goodwill just got burned in a wok flare-up! Then the food comes and it's not bad, seems good enough, but the wait, the repetitive inquiries for water and our dinner order, plus the obvious appearance that the place is grossly understaffed, isn't trained in proper meal service, and there's now an air of hostility... the place is definitely NOT on my "hurry back and try us again" list. Upon departure, we see four large tables where guests had long departed, leftover food and dirty dishes galore, and no one tending to the cleanup needed there. The bathroom lacked handsoap, too. At payment, there also lacking was any earnest "thank you for coming in, please come see us again," or anything remotely conciliatory like that. So we said "thank you" and she said "you're welcome." Honey, that's not the way the script reads. It's supposed to be YOU saying to us, "thank you," not the other way around. I don't think you're going get an academy award nomination for this bad movie, dear. This PF Chang's needs more staff, an attitude adjustment, and likely a...
Read moreCame here to celebrate my son’s birthday. We explained that he has a peanut allergy and cannot have anything with peanut oil or peanuts. Mentioned this to our server several times. He said he’d check and disappeared and brought us a paper menu that was peanut safe which basically had the same items as the regular menu. So we asked if the kung pao shrimp can be made without peanut ingredients as he is highly allergic and the server said yes. Well our dinner came, and sure enough there were peanuts in his dish, thankfully other people had taken a bite and discovered peanuts before he ate too much of it. He had an allergic reaction which is not what I wanted for my son on his birthday. Sadly this left a bad impression, especially since we made it known how important it was to his safety not to have peanuts.
A couple weeks after I brought a friend for her birthday dinner and she asked the server if the pork ribs are soft enough to take off with a fork since she was having issues with her teeth, he said yes, well it was tough and no she could hardly eat any of it. I ordered Mongolian beef and the meat was tough and gristly. So another disappointing birthday since the quality of food was not there and the server again did not give us proper advice.
PF Chang’s food quality and service has gone downhill - and given that the valley has so many other restaurants who have fresher food and honor allergy requests diligently, I hesitate to...
