A Disappointing Experience with a Promised Return That Never Came
This review is about a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience my family had after we accidentally left behind my son's AirPods at Pete’s during a road trip stop on May 22, 2025. What could have been a simple, kind gesture from a business ended up dragging out for months—and ended with my son spending his own money to replace something that was supposed to come back to him.
We realized the AirPods had been left behind shortly after the restaurant closed. Since we had already left California, we called the next day to see if they’d been found. To our relief, a manager named Priscilla answered and kindly confirmed that yes, they had the AirPods, and that she would mail them back to us that weekend. I was genuinely grateful for her help. It felt like a small piece of kindness during a busy trip.
But that’s where the follow-through ended.
A week later, on May 29, my son tracked the AirPods to the same Pete’s location. I called and spoke with Priscilla again, hoping for a simple update. Instead, I was met with what felt like frustration that I was even calling. She explained that due to personal issues, she hadn’t mailed them—and didn’t know if she’d even be able to. She said maybe another manager could send them instead, but ended the call saying she'd "try."
I gave it another week and called again on June 6. The hostess put me on hold to check if Priscilla was available, then came back and said she actually wasn’t working that day and that I should call back. My son followed up the next day himself and spoke directly with Priscilla. She told him again that she'd send them soon.
That was the last we heard.
He followed up a couple more times, still hopeful. But it’s now August, and the AirPods never came. After waiting and waiting, my son—who had been so patient—finally gave up and bought a new pair with his own money he’s been saving.
This isn’t just about AirPods. It’s about trust. About telling someone you’ll do something and then letting them down—again and again. Especially when it involves a kid holding out hope that someone will come through for him.
We’re incredibly disappointed in how this was handled. Not just the lack of follow-through, but the disregard shown after multiple kind and...
Read moreUnfortunately our experience here this week was not very good, although we would give it another try with a different server or for takeout. We found out about Pete's Brewhouse and Restaurant at the annual Taste of Redding event and finally decided to check it out this month.
The tables, bar space, and overall space were clean and welcoming, which was good. The drink selection had a good variety and the menu items all seemed appetizing, if slightly highly priced compared to other breweries in town - although with the pandemic that is acceptable. Staff were not wearing masks following the Dec 15 - Jan 15 statewide restriction - if this is something you care about (I personally have not factored this into my rating today).
We were seated quickly despite how busy of a night it was on a Monday morning following the holidays. So far, everything was pointing towards a positive experience.
Once seated, our server almost never checked on us again. It took nearly 40 minutes and asking a hostess to check on our order. We didn't even get plates and napkins until our server saw the hostess bringing us our food from the kitchen. This was particularly upsetting because we saw all of the other servers working hard, checking their tables, and bringing out food for people who were seated long after us. If the hostess had not immediately brought us our food when we asked her to check on it, we would have paid for drinks, left, and gone to one of our more regular spots like Woody's Brewery or Final Draft. I have always had a lot of empathy for people who work in the service industry, but this server wasn't even trying to help us. We never saw her to go to the back to check on orders, she never came by to check on us, we had to ask a passing hostess or server for almost everything even the bill.
We might come back and try it again, especially since it seemed like the other servers were working hard and the food might have been better if it was served as soon as it was ready.
Recommended plate(s): Garlic Knots were good and somehow seemed fresher than the main courses brought out at the same time, given...
Read moreJUST TRY THEIR 'KNOTS' (You'll thank us later)! Very friendly and attentive wait staff was the highlight of our recent dine-in experience at this popular eastside eatery. The sports bar feel and busy horseshoe bar area tend to dominate the large room, not unlike the roadhouse steak place up the street, but without encroaching on one's mealtime pleasures. Our biggest beef: t'was a tad too dark in the dining room, making reading the small print menu a bit of a challenge for anyone older than 35 (Which we barely are, I swear). Lamps on each of the tables would fix that, people! Our second visit here, we went back mainly to try the pizza, which was fine, but every bit as disappointing as most any pie you'll eat anywhere in this economy these days, from fast food to fancy; it looks like our quest to find an old school-style "amazing pizza" continues, what with all the economic cutbacks in the quality of ingredients that's so commonplace in restaurants now. How hard is it to make a decent pizza crust? God, I miss the '90s, (if only for that reason)! So we weren't too surprised by that discovery, nor would we downgrade this establishment for it either. We're just hoping the New Great Correction we're in right now will also wake people up to what honest-to-God good food really is. We can dream, can't we? Recommended, if for nothing else the menu variety and cute waitresses (Yes, we can call them that again). God...
