While walking up to the shop I noticed three separate groups eating their bagels in their cars. Upon walking in I understood why. Place was a mess, crumbs on the back counter along with dirty utensils, and the register counter was also covered in crumbs. Not a single customer or employee in sight. Atmosphere was bleak and very unwelcoming, I don't even think they had music playing. A little bit later I waited for an employee to slowly make their way over to acknowledge they had a guest, never smiling and obviously very unhappy to be there. Took my order (cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese) and told me to wait at the register.
Total was $4.50, left a tip and noticed it was more than they quoted so I texted my receipt. Yup, credit card fees being passed to their guests without a sign that I could find. Maybe it was there or I was just so focused on the mess everywhere. Good business practice, don't charge your guests for paying you for product. Build it into the cost of doing business.
Left the shop and went on my way. As soon as I got home I dug in, noticing that the outside of the wrapper had soft onions and poppyseeds stuck to it. My cinnamon raisin bagel also came with pieces of onion stuck around it. Not a good combination to have onion in every bite of my cinnamon bagel. Can only assume it was from using a dirty utensil to cut the bagel or placing it on a dirty counter.
I'm not sure why Big O Bagels is still around. Have yet to have a great experience here. Maybe it's because they are the only bagel shop in town which is the only reason I went in, definitely for the last time. I'd rather drive all the way to Bend to get a...
Read moreI loved this place! I was trying to place what was different about the bagels and after reading some of the reviews, I think it might be that they don't boil the bagels before baking, or they at least don't boil as long. This does give them a different texture (not as soft), but I wasn't mad at it! We came back 2 days in a row (visiting from out of town) because I was sad to leave them behind. The first day, I got the garlic and herb bagel with the garlic and herb cream cheese. The girl helping us was really nice and gave her opinions on what she likes as I was debating on cream cheese for my bagel. The second day, I got the bacon and cheddar bagel with the garlic and herb cream cheese. Both days, I was blown away! The flavors are great, and the cream cheese was soooo good. I had the nantucket OJ to drink the first day, which was bleh, so I got apple the next day, and that was a win. We went in on a Saturday morning and a Sunday morning and didn't have a line really or have to wait. Staff was attentive and quick, as well as being friendly! Sad that these aren't out here in Vegas, but if I'm ever back, this will be...
Read moredecent bagels but they’re literally constantly out of flavors like chocolate chip which is the one bagel they make for kids, or garlic herb. worker said they only make like 18 a day of these flavors? why not make more if they are sold out every day within the first hours of being open… meanwhile bags of jalapeño cheddar for example are always left over the next day. also, the wait is always like 15-20 minutes even when there are like two people ahead of you. it’s always a frustrating visit, not sure why i keep trying to give them a chance. better off just buying bagels from the store.
edit: updated to one star for the snarky & patronizing response from owner. it’s not a one time occurrence and we have been on weekdays where selection is extremely limited as well. definitely not coming back but lol at blueberry raisin — because raisins are just so popular with kids right? gimme a break....
