Old review: pre 2014
"This Seoul Hot Pot is actually around the corner in a "strip mall" shared with Teapot restaurant. Its next to Performance bikes and the Mayuri Indian market.
The food is soooo Fantastic! The na mul assortment (small little dishes meant to be shared by everyone at table) is Really Good! My meat eater friends love the Kal bi (beef ribs) and the BulGogi (seared chop beef) so much that they actually want to lick the sauce off the iron plate it comes in. (bizarre... but that's what they tell me!)
I usually eat the vegetarian version of BiBimBap - without the beef. I ask them to substitute the beef for an extra fried egg. The bibimbap has a slew of vegetables (na mul) thrown in a bowl with a fried sunny side up egg. They give you a bowl of rice on the side that you put into the bowl of na mul. Then you pour the Hot sauce over the rice, egg, and veggies in the bowl and MIX everything up!
The Bibimbap sauce is very good! Adds a great flavor to the dish.
Another dish I love is called - chop chae (rice noodles with stir fried veggies). This is great for those who need a "Gluten Free" entree. I ask them for the vegetarian version... "NO Meat, please tell cook to wash out the wok before cooking" ... This comes out PERFECT!! Has the perfect combination of umami and sweetness. Yummm.
I haven't tasted any meat derivatives (meat/poultry fat, etc) thus far.
A lot of the other Korean restaurants don't accommodate vegetarians very well, but this place does! ...
Read moreWent with a large group, so we were in the party room. Definitely don't recommend doing BBQ options with large parties because the tables only had 2 BBQ pits and at most 3 people can comfortable fit food to cook. But we were celebrating so waiting to cook was fine. The food was seasoned well and tasted good. But the service was TERRIBLE. There were 2 main servers. The one for my side of the room barely checked on us. They give you lots of individual plates for the ingredients you pick (which is fine because cross contamination) but the amount at the table that needed to be removed just kept growing and she didn't make any attempts to clear them. At one point I got up and just asked one of the staff nearby if they could clear some of the plates and I guess because they didn't speak much English (which was fine)pointed to ladies at the bar. No words just pointed. I go to those ladies and make the request again and they said okay but didn't move. The restaurant is EMPTY. We are the only ones there. But I guess they must have told our server because eventually she came and started collecting the plates. Drinks were barely refilled and again because of the party size some people were not able to cook there food til close to the end of the 2 hour time limit they give you and they were told they could not do carryout, so they had to scarf thier food down. To top it off because it was large party gratuity was an automatic 18%. I don't mind giving 20 for good service and 15 for mediocre but I was so irritated we has to leave anything more than 5 dollars. Would...
Read moreMy husband and I saw the great ratings that Seoul Hot Pot had (as of 9/7/2013) and were craving Korean, so we decided to give this place a shot.
When my husband went to the restroom, he had a view of the kitchen from the hallway where he saw plates being dropped on the floor, and fresh produce was stocked in the open, uncovered, next to the bathrooms. Not sanitary!!
Our food came out fairly quickly, and after our food came out, not one, not two, but THREE HUGE cockroaches crawled out of the wall next to our table!! We immediately alerted the staff and management, who tried to squish the bugs NEXT TO OUR FOOD and when that didn't work, they insisted on reseating us so we could continue our meal. We told them in no uncertain terms that our appetite was gone, that we couldn't trust the kitchen if there were that many cockroaches in the dining room, and that we would be taking our business elsewhere and never returning. We went to Hot Stone Korean on the other side of Redmond and were treated to fresher looking food, friendlier staff, and a cleaner dining experience.
This place needs to be shut down and combed through by the health department. I have no idea how Seoul Hot Pot got such stellar reviews with how disgusting it is....
