This place can be very hit or miss depending on what you buy and which employee is working. This review is meant as much for management as it is for future customers. Cheaper items like the kaarage style chicken, chicken steak and the golden buns were so very delicious I definitely recommend them. Their bento is a good value with rice and pork filling on top with pickled sides and a boiled egg.
I find that their drinks are really inconsistent, one visit my milk tea was nice and sweet, but next time I ordered the same one and it was really bitter. All their toppings I've tried have been good texture and taste.
One of the boys also left our food on the end counter and let it sit. Ordinarily they call out the order, and yet we didn't hear him when it was pretty quiet after dinner rush and we were sitting at the closest booth to them. I finally asked for an update and by then a lot of our food was getting cold. I noticed after that he would mumble out the contents of peoples orders and then go back to chatting with fellow employees which was really weird. Keep an eye out for your food so you get it nice and fresh especially if it's fried.
Hygiene is something I think management does need to address. The tables are very sticky and covered in sauces and food residue. There was a pretty large spill on a table that staff didn't clean up in the hour and a half we were there. It is a health code requirement to wipe down tables after being used for eating food and this does have a sit down restaurant function. I really like this place so I hesitate to not give it four stars, but I also feel like there are aspects of the store a good management would address. This review kind of felt like a survivors guide to eating at Tapioca Express and that...
Read moreI always thought that even when Asian or roadside food came to America, as a customer you no longer had to think about whether the restaurant was serving fresh food to its customers. Tapioca, however, has forced me to look at food safety again - it's ridiculously ironic that I have to think about the hygiene of what I'm eating in the United States.
The serving time took close to 20min, which is understandable since it was a one-time meal.
The first dish: pork and rice. The pork was very dry, with obvious signs of repeated processing - this was probably a ready-to-eat dish.
Second course: chicken cutlet. If you know about ferrous trioxide, congratulations, you will see the color of this famous chemical on this chicken cutlet. The oil was very dirty.
Third dish: salt-crusted chicken. I don't know how I comforted myself at the time when I saw the color of the gizzards after my first bite to open the chicken. Unfortunately, it was probably just an isolated phenomenon.
The fourth dish: dumplings. It should be the cheapest pork and cabbage dumplings bought in the supermarket. No meat flavor, no cabbage flavor. There was a faint unnatural sourness and the flour.
I hope this is really just an isolated phenomenon, after all, every restaurant came over from COVID is not easy. Although I personally will no longer come to this restaurant, I still hope that this restaurant will provide quality, healthy and safe food for his loyal...
Read moreBad. I come on Tuesday night and they not busy at all. When i come in, no one was care about me. They just stand there and washing something. They even come up front to accept their delivery order but they still dont even look at me. I had to stand their for another 10 mins. I don’t want to be mean because i know that maybe they busy at something and they will be here soon but they not. They just don’t care. I order two dishes to go and wait about 20 mins. There were two other customers came and order after me and they are all got the orders before me. I feel so uncomfortable and i come up if my food is ready. The white shirt guys said let him come in and check. After 15s later, they brought out my order but everything is pretty cold. I don’t think that they just finish cooking them. I believe they mean to do that because i was asking “can i order please” when they were doing something else. So they are not happy about me and let me wait for my food even my food were ready. I am so upset how they treated me. If you come to the store, please don’t do anything. Just stand there and wait for the worker care about you. If you speak up like me to get their attention for ordering, you may not get you food prepared probably or even something in your food that you...
