My sister and I came here after a day trip to rehoboth beach and wanted to try an all you can eat crab restaurant. Upon walking up to the host we were told that all you can eat option was available until 6. Since we arrived at 5:40 we decided to go with a dozen large crabs because there wasn't enough time for AYCE. We also got a dozen oysters, French fries and buffalo wings. French fries and wings were really good. The oysters were a mix of good sized plump ones and puny excuses for oysters. One was so small that I asked another server to take it back (now to give them a positive note they did replace it with three nicely sized oysters which we weren't expecting).
Now for the crabs... Being from Maryland, I've been to plenty of crab feasts where live crabs have been freshly steamed. Like so freshly steamed that it's impossible to dig in right away without burning fingertips off. This place is quite the opposite of that. I don't know if they were having an off day but our crabs must have been sitting under a warmer because they weren't that hot when they came out to our table. The meat was rubbery in the claws and by the time we got to the body it was lukewarm. We paid $79 for a dozen lukewarm okay crabs. They were bigger than expected but not really plump with meat. Needless to say I will not be getting crabs here again. Also near the end of our meal another table got another tray of AYCE crabs??? Or maybe I'm mistaken? The 6pm cutoff time wasn't explained very well. Stay away from the large crabs.
The reason for three stars was partly due to the service. Our server was attentive and brought things promptly and with a positive attitude. The food runner seemed miserable. I guess it's because she was in a hurry to deliver the entire restaurant food but she was hurried, distant and cut us off a few times. People are allowed to have off days so no biggie.
Service, four stars. Food, two stars. Was it worth...

A few moments later, the hostess come over to me and says"he needs your help". I said "what?" as i didnt understand what she was telling me. She said "your husband, he fell". Jumping out of my seat i get to the door way and my husband who is 66 years old and 6'1" was trying to get up off the floor. A kind young father who was having lunch with his family had gotten up and was helping my husband up. Not one staff member had come to his aid. The bartender was turned away to the back while the young waitress stsnding next to him was looking right at me and the situation and did not render any help. The hostess did not even reach down to offer a hand up. After i loudly said why hadnt anyone came to help did the girl frpom the bar area come over and then ask if he needed help or ice. My husband had skinned his knees and elbow after tripping on a small step threshold that wasnt marked, he then proceeded to the rest room while i went back to the table. I could see the hostess at the front booth say something to the manager who then came over and asked me how my husband was. I said i didnt know that she should ask him when he returns. Then she asked if he needed ice. I said i didnt know, to ask him, i was very upset so i said not one of her staff helped my husband off the floor. My husband just then returned as i was saying this, he said he was ok but he really was quite shaken so i got up and we left. Tbis place cares about taking your money but doesnt care enough to help an old man off the ground when he trips over their...
Read moreLast summer we had a party of 17. We wanted to to get Crabs. We could have gotten them from a pickup place and eaten them at the house but we decided to eat at claws instead.
We called several days prior and they said they don't take reservations, we confirmed based on the party size and that we would be eating crabs. They said no we don't take reservations. We would have to register our names and wait for a table. Would the crabs be a problem since you are a crab restaurant? No.
So Thursday night comes first week of Aug, 2013. We list our families name and party size around 5pm, and that we will be wanting crabs. We are told they should have a table for our party size ready be 6:30.
When 6:30 came around we were told they don't have crabs. When we asked in almost disbelief they said that we should have called ahead and reserved the crabs in advance. (we are now talking to the manager) We told him about all of our phone calls, and attempts to schedule this. He said well I wasn't told.
Anyway, Claws is not really a crab restaurant. Its more of a fish restaurant that pretends to be a crabhouse.
Also, while waiting out front for our 6:30 let down I noticed a mint plant which several dogs had urinated on. I then saw employees of the restaurant come out and pick mint from the plant (I'm not making this up, this really happened. If your looking at the restaurant from the front you'll notice the mint plant on the far left side. If you watch it long enough you'll see someone walk there dog to it and it will pee on it.)
Once again Claws thanks for ruining crab night in 2013 for a family that comes to Rehoboth...
