This place has a high rating and I had been there once before. My previous experience was ok, I just thought it was super expensive. This time I was with 4 friends, 5 of us in total. We walked in all starving, and they asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside, well, the sign outside said the patio was closed and it was like 95 degrees outside. We told the guy that we wanted to sit inside. I thought he was going to put two tables together, but NO he was planning to have us squeeze into a 4 top. We are not small guys, and there was no way all the plates of food and us on that table would have ever fit. I don't see how this guy couldn't see that. So I asked him to push two tables together so we could be more comfortable. So we sat down and the guy comes over and asks if we want something to drink. We asked for water and he said, "is bottle water ok?" We glanced at the menu and saw that it is $4 a bottle. We replied, no tap water is fine. He said, "we don't have tap water." We said ok, no water then. Then he walks away. I stopped him midway and said can we have some chips and salsa and queso. He asks if we want guacamole also. I glanced at the menu and it says $8.99! We're like, no thank you. He brings over the chips, salsa and queso. We started to eat the stale chips, basic queso and not very flavorful salsas. Then he comes over to take our order. He got to me and all I was going to order was a burrito. The price was $18.99 for a regular burrito with no guacamole. I requested no rice ( I'm diabetic). I asked if they have lettuce and he said yes. Great, I asked if I could have that instead of rice. He looks over to a guy in the kitchen and asks him and the guy says no we cannot do that. I'm like we'll you have lettuce, just cut it up and put it in my burrito. (I request this all the time at taquerias and have never been denied.) Again he said no we cannot do that. I got up and said, guys let's get out of this place. One of my friends left 10 for the stale chips and the lame queso. The rest of us walked out the door. We couldn't believe how horribly we were being treated by staff that didn't care. We all felt like we were being drasticslly overcharged for the food and getting crappy service. Never again will I or any of my friend's...
Read moreUnfortunately, unfortunately I have to give a bad review today and I’m very sad about that. The owner was very rude to me and did not act like a customer knows best type of situation.
First off, I have been a loyal customer for over 3 years and this IS the best Mexican food in Reno.
However, I was charged $5.40 dollars for chips that should have come with Let the two items amounting to $$43 dollars. Taco Gallo $19.99 & Quesadilla with suerto (a type of pork found I the Casa di Barrio) authentic Mexican cuisine.
Problem start when I called in and it’s probably my fault for calling in at 6:15 right in the middle of service and the owner was definitely stressed out. I noticed that they’ve closed the bar so things may not be doing so swimmingly Good these days he did at me and said you’re just causing trouble you’re talking Terrible and I’m trying to give him the information and he’s just not listening. Remember, Customer knows best.
He hung up on me and I tried to explain to him on the second phone call nothing worked within five seconds. He hung up again he’s lost not only one customer, but I promote the restaurant. Every person I meet must be two dozen by now.
It’s expensive, but the product is yet the authenticity is good. It feels like the Casa de barrio and either San Francisco or Oakland. Good luck with the owner and his not so well versed staff about customer service.
I did hesitate and said you charge me $5.40 for chips. Don’t they come with it and another girl was saying yes they should and I thought that they had put some guacamole in or some chips. You know they charge five bucks for chips 540 I thought that was gonna have more than just plain...
Read moreFOOD: My favorite item is the street tacos.
I've been here about 6 times now and nothing beats the street tacos in my opinion. The cost to portion and flavor ratio is excellent 🤑🤤
You get to pick 2 proteins from a lot of different choices and I highly recommend the chorizo, carne asada, and veggie (if you're a veg head). The other choices are good too though. 3 of those are pictured 📸
I've ordered other items which were good but I keep coming back to these bad boys.
Based on other reviews I've read, it further makes me believe that the street tacos (not to-go) are the way to go.
Also, I've tried two of the mixed drinks. The Jamaica is featured in the picture. The drinks are delicious but they could be a little stronger 💪🏻🙏🥺 (1/2 oz. pour more maybe?). I'm probably done ordering those.
ENVIRONMENT: There is indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, it feels a little cramped but friendly. Outside is nice and there are about 6 picnic benches and some chairs, however if it is late in the evening the umbrellas don't help much with the hot sun 🌞 coming in from the West at every bench unless you McGuyver the umbrella itself into a weird orientation. I like the outdoor seating, but it might not be for everyone.
The street tacos are better than most mexican restaurants and are definitely worth a try if you haven't been 👌🤤
P.S. I got complementary street corn the first time I went. The next 5 times I've gone... No free street corn? Why? 🥲 Just salsas......
