It’s unfortunate how a bad experience can change your perception of an establishment. I’ve only ever ordered through Uber or take out and decided go try eating in this time. I wasn’t sure how this place worked, order a s sit yourself or they come to your table, etc. we clearly looked lost, standing in front of the two young girls, no acknowledgement- hi, hello, just a minute, etc. nothing, as they were counting the tips. I finally asked if we ordered up front, she didn’t even look up and said you need to hold on. Great, we looked over the menu, even once we were ready, we still had to wait because they were discussing how they were going to short their co-worker of his/her tips. Once done, one girl was leaving, the other one (black hair, thin, wearing a necklace that said “Milagros”, spoke Spanish) just looked up at us without saying anything. Again, no hi sorry for the wait, what can I get you. Nothing. We order- carnitas torta, breakfast burrito super sized, and decided to get a pastry. None were labeled so I described which one, and she sassily says “the coffee cake??”, like it’s not obvious for someone who’s never tried coffee cake. It took everything in me to not get smart with her. Before the food came out, the black haired girl, drops off the pastry and doesn’t say anything. She brought us a biscuit looking bread. My husband took it back to ask for the correct one, i was facing the counter so I saw her facial expression when he turned, and she rolled her eyes! My husband had to talk me out of not giving her a piece of my mind. I was floored, she makes a mistake and gets frustrated with us? Food comes out. All looks good, my husband then noticed that there is no avocado, sour cream, etc. in the burrito and we paid a few extra dollars for this. He takes it back. By this point the other girl who had left had came back to make her and her family coffee and food. They were talking and the black hair girl tells her that we better tip! I wasn’t planning on tipping from the minute we had our first interaction. I don’t know what makes people think tips are a must especially with AWFUL service. This is a place, you order your food at the counter and clear your own table, and she thinks she deserves a tip for bringing out a plate while having a horrible attitude. I’m going to have to check our bank account too to make sure she didn’t add a tip to our card since she never turned the iPad for us to sign. If the food wasn’t so good, I’d never be back but I think I’ll stick to Uber eats and take out. This owner won’t lose service for some snotty teen/young adults but I hope he has a conversation with them. this is a review for the...
Read moreWalden's is always a tough one for me. Their food and coffee is delicious, though pricey. But we'll happily pay a bit more for tasty, good quality food. Everything I've ever ordered from here has been great!! And the breakfast burrito is usually filling enough that I have half left over for lunch. It comes with a fantastic (house?) salsa too!
But the service... I've given this location a few tries recently, and the last few times, they've come up short. We went to order a simple takeout order from the counter. The employee taking our order could not have looked more annoyed if she tried. She entered the order then stared at me as if to imply, "are you done?" To be fair, she didn't say this, so it could be my own discomfort in our interaction. But it is off-putting to walk into a restaurant and feel as if you are inconveniencing someone to take your order. Perhaps she thought we wouldn't tip? We also thought maybe this is just her personality, but the way she interacted with other employees spoke otherwise.
Props to the young man who called our name and then walked our order to us. My hearing isn't always the best and I had my back to the counter, so this was very considerate...
