Just had the most comforting bowl of Khao Soi at Joy’s Pattaya in Richfield, MN 🍜 This place always feels like home, cozy vibes, the best fish sauce, crispy eggrolls, and the most flavorful curry broth. This Khao Soi was on special, and honestly… it was everything I needed on a chilly fall day 🍂 If you haven’t been here yet, go try it …thank me later 😉 #GypsyTriedIt #Kha#KhaoSoia#ThaiFoodnneapolis ##FoodTok

I visit Joy’s Pattaya Thai Restaurant once or twice a week, so the staff there recognize me. I always order the same dish—fried rice with no meat and no onions—because I’m Muslim and only eat halal food, which they are aware of. However, they messed up my order and brought out fried rice with chicken. When I pointed out the mistake, they acknowledged it and said they would fix it. After waiting for about 5 minutes, I received my new order, but as I was eating, I found a piece of chicken in it. I felt deeply betrayed. When I brought it to their attention, they said I didn’t have to pay, but they didn’t seem to understand how important it is for me to eat halal food. A response back to Joy’s Management: I am disappointed by your response, as it not only fails to address the seriousness of the situation but also includes false accusations and unwarranted remarks about my character. First, I want to clarify that I have always treated your staff with respect during my visits. The claim that I have shown “bad gestures” or “dramatic behavior” is entirely untrue and baseless. I have no history of conflicts with your servers, and any suggestion otherwise is slanderous. Second, while I appreciate your acknowledgment of the mistake and your decision to waive the payment, the issue goes far beyond a simple error. As a Muslim, consuming halal food is a deeply important aspect of my faith, and finding chicken in my dish after I specifically requested no meat felt like a significant violation of trust. Finally, your suggestion that I “visit halal-approved places in the future” is unnecessary and condescending. As a customer, I have the right to dine where I choose and to expect my dietary preferences to be respected. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to improve communication, address customer concerns with professionalism, and avoid making false statements about your patrons. Reply: What are you even talking about? Take some time to educate yourself on what HALAL food actually means. I specifically ordered “fried rice with no meat.” I challenge you to release the video on social media so people can see and hear for themselves if I was rude. I was literally shaking from the experience. Your actions are fraudulent. Instead of taking accountability, you’re slandering me and trying to tarnish my character just because you received a bad review. I will definitely be reaching out to Muna (the waitress you fired) because this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and you need to be held accountable for lying about your customers. Reply: At this point you sound delusional and racist. I will not waste my precious time or New Year arguing with you.

Title: Struggling with Expectations: Joy’s Pattaya Thai Restaurant Review On the Fourth of July, when most eateries were shut tight, we found solace in Joy’s Pattaya Thai in Richfield. This fact alone deserves commendation, given the limited options available on a national holiday. Yet, despite their willingness to serve on such a day, our experience was tinged with a measure of disappointment. Considering the mixed experience, we feel a rating of three out of five stars is fitting. Our anticipation was high when we arrived at 7 PM, expecting an hour of service left based on the advertised closing time of 8 PM. Unfortunately, we were informed that the kitchen was closing early, despite an empty dining room. This was a point of contention, as proper communication about their operating hours, especially on holidays, would have saved us from unnecessary disappointment. However, we must give credit where it's due. On requesting takeout, the staff changed their stance and agreed to serve us, a flexibility that we genuinely appreciated. The ambiance, although a tad dark and lacking in vitality, didn't deter us from our Thai food craving. The ordering process hit a snag when, after a 20-minute wait, we were told that the restaurant had run out of rice, a staple in any Asian cuisine. This was not just surprising, but disappointing, given that it wasn’t communicated earlier. An additional wait after changing our order further added to our frustration. That being said, the quality of the food was quite satisfying for the price point, indicating that Joy’s Pattaya Thai might be a more suitable option for takeout or delivery rather than dining in. In summary, our experience at Joy’s Pattaya Thai was a mixed bag. We applaud their decision to remain open on the Fourth of July, providing a service when most other restaurants did not. However, the issues with operation hours and service indicate room for improvement. It's our sincere hope that Joy's Pattaya Thai can address these issues, as their food quality, and willingness to serve on a holiday, hint at a potential yet to be fully realized.

DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT If I could give zero stars, I would.

I am currently on the phone trying to address the issues I've had with the restaurant, since my order, last night. Kay answered the phone. I was told I would hear back from the manager Jay "maybe Monday". I said I needed to speak with a manager before that. I was told they had a customer, and the phone was put down, presumably on the counter. I can hear the restaurant noises in the background. I've been waiting for 39 minutes to speak with someone as I write this review.

I ordered food to go from Joy's; Green Curry with tofu, Drunken noodles with duck, Pad Pak with tofu, and mango sticky rice for dessert. I explained that I had a bell pepper allergy and asked for a different vegetable to replace it. I was charged $2 on each entree to replace the vegetable for a different vegetable (mushrooms for 1 entree, eggplant for the other 2).

The green curry was the best of everything. It was average at best. The rest of the food was completely tasteless. They forgot the mango sticky rice. There were bell peppers in the food. I had a reaction. Thank goodness for Benadryl. There were no more the 3 slices of mushrooms in one entree. There was a combined total of 7 slices of eggplant in the other 2 entrees. For these 10 vegetable slices I paid $6. There were 3 large pieces of the sternum bone attached to the duck pieces. I bit into them all, and at one point, nearly choked.

I was on the phone for 48 minutes, last night to get my money back for the mango sticky rice. As well as some sort of response regarding the peppers, and bone pieces. I was told I would be given a $15 credit.

Not only was no credit applied. My bill totalled $60. To date my card has been charged for $72, and $13.38.

I'm still waiting for someone to pick the phone back up, as I listen to the restaurant noises in the background. It's now been 48 minutes of listening to them speak in the background and no one is picking up the phone. Just lots of yelling in the background.

After 52 minutes I called back and spoke to Titt. She didn't know when I will hear from a manager, because she doesn't "work here very often". I was put back on the counter. Another person picked up the phone claiming to be a manager. She told me "with duck sometimes you get bones. It's not our fault." I tried to explain the issue with the charges to my card. They hung up on me.

I've spent for over 2 and 33 minutes of phone time with this place with ZERO resolution.

I recieved a call back from "the manager", a female refusing to give me her name. Mid-sentence, suddenly Kay was back on the phone She is refusing to give me any money back on my card, unless I return the food. When I explained that some was it was eaten, Kay told me I should come back in and I "vomit on the bar, if that was where my food is at".

Edit: I've made a complaint with the BBB.

UPDATE: We returned to Joy since we moved 1 year after our visit. Everything was fine until our soup arrived. The first scoop had a dead cockroach flattened against a shrimp. I called the server back and asked if they could change or fix this. I wasn't asking for a discount or anything- just fix this. The servers' (I say plural bc I know two of them were discussing how to approach this) response was very disappointing and upsetting.

They brought the same soup out responding that the cockroach I saw was chili. She had black burnt substance on her thumb and forefinger saying, "Oh I picked it up and rubbed it (starting crushing the black substance) and saw that it was chili."

These servers didn't know that a few years ago, I dealt with a roach problem for a few months. I've seen enough to recognize one and they were going to pull the "oh, it's chili.." card on me. The dead one had its antennas, head and body (with horizontal ridges) all intact and to try to cover up their mistake with a lie- is not acceptable. If they didn't realize this, I've cooked Asian foods before. Eaten plenty of Thai food. That lie may work on somebody else, but not me. If their claim that it was chili was correct, I should have seen more of that "chili" floating in the soup and around our food.

Again, I wasn't asking for a discount. I was asking them to fix it aka change it- giving me a new bowl of soup would have kept your customer happy knowing you tried to give them a peace of mind while eating AND you could have protected the image of your business.I don't expect perfectly clean food to be served. It's not even guaranteed when we cook at home. I don't think I'm being anal or uppity about this but when business compromises their integrity, you lose trust from your customers, mine included.

Your food may have tasted fine, but your integrity from your employees and business left me feeling sick.

Joy's is memorable for me because it was the first meal we had when we drove into/moved to Minnesota. We weren't sure what to expect but Joy's did not disappoint. Their flavors are authentic and I loved their decor.

Our server was on top of refills and checking in on us while we were there. Would come back...
