Went here for my birthday and it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at Red Lobster. First off, they didn't know it was my birthday, which is great because I hate that type of attention anyway, back to the review. Firstly, the place was pretty dead when we arrived which was around 6 p.m. on a Thursday (not a good sign). Secondly, I ordered my main meal which was a filet and a rock lobster tail and I wanted the filet cooked medium. Well, the first time the steak came out it was pretty much raw. I mean raw, super bloody, and the color was purple. I just couldn't eat that (not my taste) so I sent it back. The second time it comes out after about 10 minutes or so the filet looks like it was popped back into the oven BUT it wasn't cooked and AGAIN looked raw. Sent it back, but this time I asked if they could just make a new dish since now everyone at the table is halfway finished eating and all I ate was my lobster tail and mashed potatoes. I ate those in like 2 seconds cause I was starving, I didn't eat all day because I was excited to have a birthday feast at Red Lobster, anyway, I figured it's my B-day and I should have this meal the way I want it so I can enjoy it to the fullest. So they said sure they would make a new one, however, it would take a little time, I said OK. It took another 20 minutes for them to bring out the third try and guess what..... YEP, NOT cooked properly! The filet was raw, AGAIN! At this point I was pretty fed up, everyone was finished eating and I had picked from what was left of the food on the table and was pretty disappointed. The manager asked if I wanted them to try once more. I wasn't too into it but reluctantly said fine. Well forth times a charm, but at this point I didn't even want it and dinner was over and everyone was kind of bummed out that I didn't get what I wanted for my birthday dinner, but in the end management took off my meal and a few other things and gave my a filet and lobster tail to go. Lastly, even though my dinning experience was horrible, compounded because it was a special day for me (birthday) and I didn't even get to eat one of my most favorite meals, I have to say management was very courteous and nice and apologized a bunch of times and did their job well. I hope next time is much better, if we ever go...
Read moreThree years ago this was a 4-5 star experience amongst Red L.obsters
Now (based on a cumulative 4 visit over three months at separate times and week days), it is a 2 heading towards a 1.
Johnstown made a deal with the devil to maintain their metropolitan status. We did not get the best nor the good of philly. Just the absolute worst.
Servers can't be bothered to clean tables. This is grossly slovenly. They argue with guests. Food is brought out randomly, making it difficult to eat together. Proper etiquette is to wait for all persons to be served before eating. Johnstown I get that you're turning into worst Philadelphia and before that you were largely rust trash but basic table manners please... Thus if you follow proper etiquette you will be paying for at least one reheated meal. Tables are also used frequently by servers to serve neighboring tables by said stellar (they are the opposite) servers.
The cooks don't seem to understand when something is cooked vs not. Steaks will not be served to order. Mussels will be served unopened (had to argue with the server about that one. If 50% of an appetizer isn't able to be eaten then that is a fail).
The managers do not make rounds on the floor.
When you pay your bill. Just a heads up. I again understand that Johnstown is ranked last in the state for public education but. You all still have cell phones. Open up your phone and the open the calculator. Take the total amount BEFORE tax (this is etiquette again, you calculate the tip percentage on the bill before tax) and multiple by .2 for the tip amount.
You will see that it's different from the 15/18/20% amounts the restaurant suggests. This is because they are using the total amount with tax included. This is dishonest honestly. You won't be getting great nor good service to begin with; tip 20% because that's what Americans do (instead of a tip based on service in which these servers would be paying you.).
Johnstown sucks. It's turning into the worst part of Philadelphia combined with rust belt white trash. This restaurant fully reflects that and should be avoided it all costs. Save your money. Go...
Read moreIf you're like me and you love seafood this particular Red Lobster is one of the best. I have eaten at several other Red Lobsters and the quality of the food was less than par at them. The food at Red Lobster in Johnstown reminds me of the days when Red Lobster was good. The wood grilled shrimp were huge (not big, HUGE) and they actually tasted like wood fire grilled shrimp, the shrimp scampi was excellent (i could tell there was actually marsala wine in it and this is not the case for all locations in fact), the lobster and crab were not over cooked. I have eaten here 3 times semi recently and all 3 times this particular location has proven to be far above any others that i have eaten at. For Red Lobster the quality of food has to do with Management and there is 100% a difference in this location and other Red Lobsters. I hope this continues and if you like Red Lobster that reminds you of the old days when it was good and perfore the time when everything got cheaper in quality but the price was still high then you will be happy you ate here. Even the lobster bisque is different at this location. As someone who frequents Maine and other places that serve fresh seafood you can definitely tell when a place not near the water is fresh and worth paying the price. Other Red Lobsters, and i wont mention any in particular but there is one that is definitely closer to where i live and near a lot of shopping, had a lot that needs to improve before i go back. I got tired of the shrimp being itty bitty like salad shrimp size and the flavor not being the same with many of the items off the menu. It is plainly obvious that they "cheapened" it up. I hope this helps people to not "give up" on Red Lobster yet, just drive...
