Edit from first experience: I went with a friend and this experience was much better. I got the oysters again because why not. For my entree, I got the veal marsala, which was very tasty. It had notes of white truffle which gave it a sweet flavor. My friend got the carbonara and let me try some. That was also very tasty. I still donât really like their red sauce but hey, everyone has different opinions about that. Overall, this experience was much better than the first time. I donât like how cramped it is and if you are a bigger person like myself, you will find it a bit uncomfortable. Their atmosphere is just okay, in my opinion. Wish they had more elbow room. What started out as unique slowly turned into a lack luster experience. This was my first time so I needed some coaching from my table and the server. We were a party of 5, so we were forced to order âfamily styleâ. This was something that I personally wanted to avoid, since itâs cold and flu season and my friends can be forgetful about used utensils when having wine. Back to the âfamily styleâ, it was explained that we could order as many appetizers as we want and choose up to four entrees. This was a confusing process, the serverâs explanation of the appetizers was unclear. I suggest the restaurant to consider having an explanation of their rules on the back of the menu so that there are no surprises. I personally did not enjoy this âfamily styleâ concept because my table had different desires from my own when it came to picking food items. I ended up being the person who did not get to pick an entree, which is our own problem but I can see how itâs an issue for any party of 5+. I did get to pick two appetizers, the fried squid and oysters. They were both delicious. In fact, I asked for more oysters. One note would be some sauce served with these items. One friend picked the conch and roasted red pepper with mozzarella, both were fine. Now on to the entrees. The Rockfish: VERY over seasoned, (way too salty to enjoy), and the skillet they served it on must had been extremely hot because the fish stuck to it and dried out most of the fillet. The Pork Chops: Dry and overcooked, the sauce or Demi glaze did not add much flavor for me but the white beans served with it were tasty. The Monkfish: Zero flavor and odd texture. Iâve never had monkfish before but the way it was prepared and served was odd. It was offered roasted (which is what we should had done) or in their spicy red sauce. I was not a fan. The Hanger Steak: Ordered rare but cooked medium. Itâs such a huge piece of meat that you would hate to complain about the temperature so I let it go. Why complain about that when the rest of the food was unpleasant. All but one of these entrees were served with pasta, which the red sauce was not tasty and had a slight burnt taste. I recognized that flavor because Iâve done it before. You are supposed to either dump it in another pot or throw it out if you stirred the burnt stuff in.
I did not enjoy that the only light in the small apartment room was from the street light outside. I like to see what I am putting in my body and to do this would mean whipping out my phone light and annoying the entire world. What if there was a bug? Extra protein I guess? Give me a break. I truly wanted to enjoy this restaurant experience but overall, I was disappointed at every aspect. Would I try it again? Iâm unsure but I definitely wonât come with a group larger than 4. Couldnât provide pictures of our food because it was so dark in the dining area and I wasnât going to draw an audience with...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went to Edo's Squid today for the first time for lunch. We ordered an appetizer and 2 pasta entrees. We waited about 30 minutes for the entrees and then when we got our entrees, we were discussing about how tasty everything was. About 5 minutes into the meal, I found a strand of hair in my pasta and decided to pull it out and put it in on the app. plate. Due to me having previous restaurant experience, I decided to initially not let our server know. About 5 minutes later, my girlfriend found a strand of hair in her bowl as well and pulled it out and put it on the same plate. After that, we decided we needed to let our server know of this since it happened to both of us. The server came by and we told and showed her the plate. She immediately apologized and took the plate back. Soon after, she came up and apologized again and asked if we wanted them to remake us the same dishes, but we declined and asked if we can get another order of the appetizer. When we got the check, we saw that we got charged for the 2 appetizers (which were correct) and for one of the entrees. The "bartender" came over and asked if she can take the check up and I proceeded to ask her why we were getting charged for the entree if we returned it because it had hair in it. She told us that because they couldn't prove that the hair belong to someone in the kitchen, the fair thing to do was to charge us for one of the entrees because "they're not a business that gives away free food". I was offended by this statement because it sounded like she was trying to imply that maybe we staged the hair in our plates to get a free meal. I asked her if she thought it was our hair and she said she can't say who it belongs to. After going back and forth, we just paid for the check. Out of all my previous experiences, I've never ran into a situation where the customer was made to feel like they did something wrong and had to pay for it. The business was definitely not...
Read moreGreetings again my friends, Bubba "Big BM" Mack back with you for likely the last time - more on that in a moment. First, let me say my experience at Edo's was terrific, The food was great, the portions ample and the service extraordinary. I was more than satisfied and give this place my highest five star rating.
The lighting was low and at a volume not too high and not too low I basked in La boheme. A wonderful opera in four parts it is and I think probably Puccini's greatest work. And I do like Puccini, but I am also quite partial to Manicotti and Rigatoni. And that is why this will be my last review for a while. I have, after hearing La boheme, decided to write an opera myself titled "La BM." It is a two part opera, the meal and the BM aftermath, but I don't want to spoil the story entirely.
I am also attaching to this post a chart for grading BMs. This came directly from the BM Institute, an authoritative source if ever there was one, and is used with permission. I think most people know what to do with this, but I must express one word of caution. Do not, under any circumstances, take this chart into a port-a-potty and attempt to grade BMs. I can tell you, having tried this, it will only drive you nuts and fill you with self doubt. Go ahead and have fun grading your own, but we should keep this grim business on a higher plane and not digress into voyeuristic behavior.
Lastly, I want to than all my followers and supporters, near and far, and thank you all for your feedback and constructive criticism. These reviews would not have been possible without my army of fellow BMers and to each and every one of you I say "thank you." So I sign off now, humbled by the support I've received, and knowing that BM education has been advanced by light years. I wish you good luck my friends and, for the last time, good BMs. This is Bubba "Big BM" Mack,...
