I pre-ordered and paid for a baguette (needed for a gathering at our house today, Dec 24) and another loaf, just to try it. I didn't need it. Per the website and the email I received, the store opens at 9.
I drove 20 minutes to get there, arriving at 9:30. The bakery opened at 10, not 9. I was standing in line until about 10:20, when I could enter the bakery.
They didn't have the baguette. Since it is the one thing I needed, I then got to spend another hour plus looking around for a baguette at other places, only to settle on the Kroger 5 minutes from my house as everyone else had sold out by 10:30.
This was my first time as a customer there. The man there seems nice. The bread is well reviewed. But it is a business and it is unforgivable in the digital age to not communicate with customers about things that will impact them. I wasted over two hours of my time on December 24 because they didn't have what I ordered and they chose not to communicate that. That's just not acceptable. Seems unlikely that I will go back. First off, how cool is it that you can buy a half loaf‽ My family is always leaving bread left over. Don't get me wrong, day old bread is still pretty great, but to be able to buy just the amount you need is even better.
So some people are pulp people, some people are crust people. I am squarely in the crust camp. If a loaf doesn't have a good crust, it's not going to be a favorite. Needless to say, that Europa makes a great crust! Give me one of their bread heals any day!
All this to say that I'll be heading back to the...
