We were Downtown on July 6th. We were at Sweet Wynn making ice cream and thought we would order Fish'n Chips online and walk to pick up dinner at 4, when we were expected to be done. The order was accepted and placed online, but the date was incorrect. We called, and it went straight to voicemail. We assumed they were busy and would walk and solve the problem directly. Sign on the door said they were closed July 4th- 7th. Their Website nor the voicemail said they were closed, so we had no idea until we saw the sign. We called again and left a voicemail with details, hoping the problem would be resolved. Called July 8th to make sure, and they said it was already prepared and CC was charged. Drove 25 minutes to get food because the gentleman on the phone couldn't seem to grasp the problem. Parked and ran in. It's cute inside, so the atmosphere was good. Got home hoping it was worth the trip, NOT. Bland fish and chips. Tartar sauce was good. I was excited to try a new restaurant with one of our favorite foods, but definitely 3 thumbs down. Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I certainly enjoyed our first visit to The British Embassy in downtown Richmond! We usually visit new fooderies in the afternoon just before the dinner folks arrive. The cozy restaurant was exceptionally clean and airy. Our charming server was most friendly and courteous as we ordered the cod fish and chips and of course, Guinness to compliment the meal. Our meals were served nice and hot. The fish was very tasty with a mild flavorful batter-coating and the chips were substantially light, fluffy, and mealy, with a soft, cooked potato texture and not greasy. (Unlike the standard crispy, standard-fare French fries from a fast food place.) We chose the sticky toffee pudding as dessert and what a treat! We look forward to our next visit to sample the other British-style offerings. The Thai selections on the menu are also...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLooking at the other reviews, we either went on an off night, or the place has gone down the drain rapidly. The battered haddock was dried out and the batter had zero seasoning. Chips and small curry sauce portion were good. Mushy peas were canned Bachelor's peas. The restaurant looks dirty and dated. The sticky toffee pudding was nowhere near authentic and definitely not worth the $9 price tag. The bench seats along the wall has a gap large enough to lose an arse cheek and the chairs, sporting a Union flag, look like they are of Titanic vintage. I didn't want to look at the sanitation rating and get shocked. Pretty dingy and nasty place overall. The wait staff were very polite. Definitely not worth $62 for two people, incl/ tip, but with no drinks. Very disappointing. Cannot recommend. ...
