I visited Kin-d Thai Kitchen after seeing its many five-star reviews and wanted to check it out. When I arrived, the restaurant was empty, and the host seated me at what he called the “best table with the best view of the place.” Unfortunately, the table was noticeably wobbly — when I rested my elbow, my drink nearly tipped over. I asked for help and they kindly brought a cloth napkin, which I slid under the bottom pedestal to stabilize it.
Given that the place was empty, small details like this really stood out. When I arrived, three staff members were standing near the entrance chatting, which gave a friendly vibe, but that time might have been better spent double-checking that tables were level, set with cutlery, and ready for guests. With no other customers present, those simple readiness touches could have easily been handled before seating.
The service was warm but a bit overbearing at times. Before I had a chance to look at the menu, my server repeatedly pressed to give recommendations, even after I said I’d prefer to browse on my own. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but a little breathing room goes a long way.
My starter and main course arrived almost simultaneously, within seconds of each other, which meant the main had cooled by the time I got to it. No cutlery or napkin was brought until I asked after the food had already been served and the wait staff walked away.
The fresh spring rolls with shrimp were visually appealing but heavily packed with lettuce. Each roll was about two and a half inches thick — two inches of that lettuce — with just a bit of shrimp inside. If the fillings were more balanced, the flavors would shine.
The Panang curry (heat level 4/5), however, was excellent — rich, aromatic, and beautifully spiced. Easily the highlight of the meal.
I also ordered mango sticky rice to go, but it was served for dine-in instead, likely due to a misunderstanding while my server spoke over my desert order with yet more unprovoked opinions and recommendations. The dessert was okay, though a bit saltier than I prefer.
Overall, there’s clear potential here. The kitchen has genuine skill (that curry was fantastic), but the front-of-house experience could use a bit more focus and care — especially when the restaurant isn’t busy. Small details like table stability, service pacing, and listening closely to guests would elevate the experience to match the quality...
Read moreToday we went for lunch, I haven’t been here since it became a new place. When I tell you it was the BOMB.COM….. I love the vibes, the staff was all very very nice. Our server was Catie and she really made sure we were good, giving recommendations and taking care of any issues. We had the gyoza and dumplings for the apps. Def like the gyoza a bit more but both were tasty. I got the drunken noodles and he got popcorn chicken. I really enjoyed my dish plus Catie offered a spice set that had a really good jalapeno vinegar I never had before. My boyfriend didn’t really like the chicken but Catie took care of it and recommended something better which was the basil rice, which I was a little jealous I didn't get myself! Overall one of the best thing was the pricing for us to be able to get two starters, two drinks and two entrees around $50 isn’t bad at all. LOOOOOVE this place will definitely be...
Read moreHad a lovely dinner at Kin-D! The space is a cozy oasis in bustling Shockoe decorated intentionally with regional Thai flair. Our server Antony was so welcoming and provided great recommendations. The chicken satay was so crispy yet juicy on the inside, and the Tiger Tear was a sizzling savory spectacle! Our entrees were equally delicious. The crispy pork belly was so flavorful and surprisingly bright. This all paired wonderfully with their spicy and sweet Mai Thai fire cocktail, which was pleasantly strong but maintained a nice balance. A wonderful new addition to the Richmond...
