The experience at West Wind was quite poor. On a scale of 1-10, I would give the food a 7. It was aceptable but did not justify the prices. The service was quite poor, maybe a 3 on the high side. We were a large party with menu orders as well as buffet orders. We were watered once with pitchers, and a 2nd time 45 minutes later. The line for the Buffet was set up in such a fashion that while in line, you were bumping into customers chairs as well as others in the buffet line The flow is ill conceived and not at all conducise to a positive experience. It was cramped and tight.
After 45 minutes most were finsihed with the buffet, and the menu orders had yet to be served. Upon inquiry, I was told the menu orders were being plated as we spoke. It took an additional 15 minutes after the "plating statment" for the menu orders to be served. The server was not telling the truth. Once the menu items were served it took another 30 minutes to conclude the meal. There were 9 buffet orders, no one came into the room to pick up the plates that had been used. We had to stack them on another table to get them out of the way. Someone DID come into the room once, asked if she could remove any plates. I counted the plates on our table, there were 8, she took out 1.
At the end of the meal, I asked to speak to the manager to express my dissastisfaction. I was told by te manager that when they have both menu items and the buffet items at the same time, a 45 -50 minute wait is not unsual, and can be up to an hour. My suggestion was disclosure of that time frame at the time of reservation. It fell on deaf ears.
I did not feel that ther server earned the auomtatic 20% gratuity, and I did not want to pay it. It was indicated to me by the manager and server, that by virtue of the gratuity being announced before orders were taken, there was no recourse for them. It has been determined that I am not bound to the gratuity, but I am bound by properly disclosed service fee. I am more than happy to tip, and quite generously, but you need to earn it.
I will not return to this establishment. Not becasue of the food, nor the poor service, but because we were not nor treated properly during the meal nor fairly regarding our discontent. Nothing was...
Read moreMy family and I attended the River Falls Days parade and had a terrible experience with the manager of West Wind Supper Club. It has been a long time since someone has been so rude to me. I dropped my disabled mother off along with my dad and my child, then parked my vehicle on a side street. They set up on the easement between the street and the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. As I was away to park, he told my family that they could not save spots (mind you, the street was lined with completely unattended chairs). My parents were not going anywhere since my mom cannot easily get around (uses a walker), so they didn't move.
After I returned, I picked up some pizza from a neighboring establishment & he came back to tell us we couldn't eat it there but could eat it in front of the pizza establishment. There were not spots available there due to people setting their chairs out and leaving them unattended, so that wasn't an option and my mom cannot get around easily with her mobility issues. We were sitting in the easement area (between the street & sidewalk) on our own chairs, not on West Wind's chairs or tables and not bringing food into their establishment. We explained that we were sitting on the easement, technically we could eat there. It was unnecessary and rude of him to say these things to us. He certainly could have invited us to order a drink from them, but not say the things he did to us.
The chairs that they set out behind the easement could definitely have reserved signs on them and people being discouraged from bringing outside food in that area is reasonable, but we weren't sitting there. It was a parade, the West Wind restaurant was busy, but he took time out to be rude to non-customers sitting next to the curb. We will never go to this restaurant if they treat potential...
Read moreThe wife and I were looking forward to having dinner here. I made a reservation through Google. Seemed very easy to do and I received a confirmation of our reservation for two. 6 pm on a Friday evening. We showed up a few minutes early. The hostess had no record of our reservation. She asked for my name at least 3 times and couldn't find it she looked confused and I said we made it for 6. Another worker proceeded to grab 6 menus and was looking to seat us right away. I said for two at 6. Apparently that was the wrong response. We were then directed to sit on the Patio. The place was busy but we walked by multiple open tables on the way to the patio and on our way out. The patio was empty and we did not receive anywhere near the experience we expected from a supper club. The patio is wrapped in plastic (winterized). Cool temperature and the lights from a town cop flashing through the plastic for the whole duration we were there roughly 90 minutes was not pleasant so I only had one drink. The drink was very good but it was not worth ordering any more given the circumstances. The wife had a martini she did like it very much. We also received water with our meal and they were refilled (empty) right before we left after dessert of course. Food took longer the waitress stated they were busy. We were not upset with waiting longer. We were given 2 warm rolls to eat while we waited. Meh The steak was good nothing spectacular cooked to my liking. The caramelized onions made it better, the wife had the fish fry. Small pieces like 4 little nuggets of cod. The fries were way overcooked. Service was good but we felt like we were shoved in a corner and forgotten about. It will be very hard to try this place again. Looks like a fun experience on the inside. But not this time. Poor choice or...
