If you want variety and spice they got it here. This meal brought back wonderful memories of my childhood. Great First impression.
I have been a fan of this establishment for years for the beauty and aesthetic of the restaurant. Last night was my first time dining here.
Jose, a Taco Station employee made a great recommendation on the choice of meat he recommended, Carne Asada. I ordered 2 Carne Asada tacos with everything on it and my company ordered the Quesadilla Platter with Spanish Rice and Refried Beans.
I helped myself to the salsa bar. I decided to get a week rounded idea of what salsa to pair with my tacos I packaged 1 cup of each salsa offered. I laughed at the novelty of the salsas spice level listed as "Mph", this fits in with the Vintage 1960s Traveling Car Theme.
This establishment was easy to navigate, before walking out you can't forget your salsas and napkins because they are located near the exit.
Their Mild Salsa is a chunky Red sauce with smokey notes. It had a lot of oregano and garlic flavor.
The homemade Mexican salsa was created with spices that took me back to my childhood. It has this wonderful fragrant Home made taste. I adore this recipe.
The Medium heat, "Salsa Verde" sauce had bits of chard peppers, chunky texture. I tasted the perfect amount of lime. Minimal heat.
The Thicker Scorching Hot Red Salsa was smooth, creamy, carried bitter notes. It has the creeping heat that you can feel it in the back of the throat. There's a lot of depth and complexity in this sauce. I noted bitter, deep notes of chili Abrol.
The Gucatillo is the dependable- same great sauce that you know and love... with a slight kick of heat.
The other Scorching Hot Salsa, was a Chili oil. This is often created by frying Chili peppers in an oil. It was delicious and I can myself pairing this with a burrito in the future.
The Carne Asada was moist, flavorful, marinated well-seasoned. It was not over salted. I enjoyed the fresh ingredients. However the cilantro could have been fresher. Take note it is in a pan that was meal prepped. Again, the onions could have been fresher. The choice of tortillas really SET IT OFF for me. Taco Station's Tortillas have the type of consistency that I miss having when I go out to eat. I search for that in local Mexican cuisine. I'm so pleased.
I enjoyed the Quesadillas as well. The tortillas were cooked on comál. I would describe them as flaky, thin and crispy with that beautiful golden color. The refried beans were smooth and creamy. I favored the texture of this dish, there was bean skins that were blended throughout the dish. It was not too rich. Just right. The Spanish Rice side is well seasoned. I found the rice granules quite small. Everything in the dish comes together smoothly.
If you like King Taco... Come give Taco Station, a try! 5 stars! I appreciate the...
Read moreI love the atmosphere, great seating when it’s not too busy. A lot of decent drink choices. Great salsas as well! Our favorite was the roasted oily one and the tomatillo one. Spiced and engaging enough but not overwhelmingly hot.
My only disappointment was the overpriced burritos. We ordered 2, a Muffler Burrito with “Al Pastor meat and a California Route 66 Burrito. The size of them were fair but the contents were absolutely amiss.
The muffler burrito was mostly beans and rice, a tiny bit of onion and cilantro. I’m unsure if the al pastor meat was low, but there was barely an ounce, ounce and half perhaps, of protein. It would look like a tortilla with a few scraps inside it if it was ordered without beans or rice. The California Route 66 burrito was a bit better, only because it had a decent amount of protein but the fries in them were almost too cold, as if they were warmed up in a microwave and stuffed in the burrito after in a rush.
They tasted alright, nothing astonishing to say the burritos were worth it.
The drinks are quite a bit pricy as well, a Corona Premier is currently running at $6.99 and a simple hot tea bag would be $3.25
It’s pricy, tastes are underwhelming. Only thing that made it pleasant enough to be there is because of the attending staff with great enthusiasm and attitude.
I would almost not recommend but it could have been an off night for the cook. Would I try again, not...
Read moreIts ok. Went for lunch with my wife. Its not what I would say its reasonably priced but its not super expensive. Like about 11 bux a plate. The food was cool. Nothing i would say fire or special, But def not bad. Cashier needs a smile but got our order right so no problems there. They got a nice selection of food, salsas and drinks. I ordered gorditas, wife got mulitas and we shared an order of flautas. All which were good. Took a little bit for our order but it was calmly busy so understandable. Yea I would recommend at least trying it for yourself. I hate to say it this was but its americanized mexican food. It just has that american feel. The beans did taste like the came from cardenas (store bought) and the mexican rice needs more tlc, the rice was shrivled and over cooked. The carne asada was on the bland side but the salsas made up for it. The chicken was ok too, not dry but it did have some flavor. The flautas were cooked well. The mulitas were good and the gorditas were gorditas nothing amazing but not bad. Dining area is pretty much outside seating so the wind was a little annoying and the birds were fighting and squawking for some entertainment. Speaking of which it has some cool tunes set to oldies and there is a cool photo op for a couple. All in all its ok, just try it out if moneys not an issue. I prob wont return tbh. But it was...
