The worst place to eat. When my husband and I walked in we were immediately greeted to a drab restaurant with no character. The front counter lady was extremely rude and didn't even show us to a table. Once given the menu it was filled with too many item choices. On the walls were tapped up some horrible pictures of food that looked poorly prepared. I had a very hard time deciding what to eat. Before I could even tell the waitress what I wanted she walked off! She didn't even give suggestions as to what was good there. When we got our egg drop soup it wasn't even egg drop soup. It looked like they had opened a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup with veggies, dumped some cooked egg whites in there and called it good. I have eaten at plenty of original Chinese restaurants where everything was correct. Not one thing of egg drop soup I've had has noodles in it and it's generally not so thin. When our meals came out the steak was not a new York steak. It was very thin and dry and the fat in it was so tough to cut through. There was absolutely no seasoning to anything that we got. The only thing that was alright we're the potstickers. But the sauce I swear was A1 sauce that had been watered down. If you decide to eat here I'm sorry and...
Read moreIt was Chinese food night and we picked the Golden Tree Chinese & American food restaurant. The restaurant has been a Riverton, UT favorite for over 30 years. I haven't visited the Golden Tree for almost 20 years. The food was delicious and the service was great just like I remembered! We will be going back and ordering take out soon! We tried one of their dinner combos for two. The meal came with soup, coffee or tea and you picked four menu items. The soup was so good and our toddler loved it. We also had the chicken lo mein, pork loved mein, two egg rolls, ham fried rice and honey chicken. The portions are a great size and we have a good amount of leftovers for tomorrow. The lo main dishes had a good balance of noodles, vegetables and protein. The ham fried rice was just what you want and it was a great addition to the noodles when you mix everything together. The egg rolls come with a yummy house sauce with spicy mustard. Too spicy for me. I asked for a side of sweet n' sour sauce and they were great! The honey chicken was just the right amount of sweet and crunchy on the outside with tender chicken. If you are looking for a great family friendly Chinese & American restaurant try the Golden Tree...

The Golden Tree Cafe has been a staple dining spot in Riverton for as long as I can remember. It's one of those places that has been around for so long it gets taken for granted - but it should not be overlooked!
While it's not a fancy restaurant, Golden Tree Cafe offers delicious Chinese food at affordable prices. When dining for two people, you'll likely end up with leftovers to take home because the portions are very generous. I recently enjoyed an excellent meal there and was reminded why this cafe has stood the test of time.
The egg foo young was perfectly cooked - flavorful and moist on the inside with a nice crisp exterior. The sweet and sour chicken had just the right balance of flavors and a light breading that didn't overwhelm the chicken. And you can't go wrong with the classic egg drop soup, nice and hot with stringy eggs and rich broth.
After being away for too long, this meal definitely brought me back. Golden Tree Cafe serves classic Chinese dishes cooked consistently well time after time. For delicious no-frills dining, you can't beat this Riverton staple. Next time, I won't wait so long before going...
