Handel's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Riverton

Here’s our experience at Handels ice cream shop : we called at 8:30 pm to make sure they were open since it was NYE. The girl who answered was very irritated and it showed in her voice . She told me they were closing at 9 and were only open a few more minutes so we jumped in the car and got there by 8:40. There were only 2 employees and the girl who waited on us was girl on the phone . She was very annoyed that we were there and was very curt and snotty to my two little grandsons who asked a question . It was not busy in there at all , we were the only ones ordering . We placed our orders, which were ice cream cones only , nothing fancy . I know it was NYE and she didn’t want to be there , and it was almost closing , but boy did she let us know in no uncertain terms that we were making her life absolute hell by having to scoop some ice cream cones . We hurried with our order and were trying to be friendly with her but she did not reciprocate our friendliness . Honestly we have never been treated so poorly and so rudely before at a restaurant in my entire 63 years. Ten minutes after we got there while she was scooping our cones and slamming the freezer doors loudly to let us know ( in case we hadn’t noticed) that she was angry to be serving us . In walked about 10 young adults and she looked at the young man working in the back as if to say “ Are you kidding me with this ?” At this point it was almost comical to watch her being so upset and angry that she had to serve customers at near closing time , even though IT IS HER JOB !!. My husband was paying and joked around with her telling her he has been in her place and he appreciates her being there tonite. Nothing, no eye contact, no half smile , no thank you for your business, just rude and snotty towards all of us. We stood back to watch how she treated the situation with the young adults and she was even worse with them! Just let me say I work in a cookie store back east (Crumbl) with lots of teenagers and not one time have I seen any of our employees serve a customer with such distain, disrespect and contempt as this employee of yours was with us. Rude, snotty, downright immature behavior as an employee of a service establishment. We are from out of state and visiting here and we won’t return . Good ice cream though which is why I gave 2 stars . Just very bad service . If it were my business, I’d kick that employee...

On our first visit to Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, my wife and I decided to dive deep into their variety with their 4 Scoop Samplers. She chose Birthday Cake, Chocoholic Chunk, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Strawberry Cheesecake, while I opted for Banana Cream Pie, Black Cherry, Monkey Business, and Strawberry.

From the first spoonful, it was clear that Handel's crafts their ice cream with exceptional skill. Each flavor boasted its own distinct and vibrant profile, which lingered delightfully until the next bite. The Banana Cream Pie was a standout with its creamy texture and authentic flavor, akin to a freshly made pie. Similarly, the Chocoholic Chunk was a paradise for chocolate lovers, rich and packed with generous chunks of chocolate.

What impressed us most was how the flavors seemed to linger on the palate, maintaining their intensity long after the ice cream had melted away. This quality made each taste a memorable experience and even when switching between flavors, each scoop was a fresh delight without any overlap.

These workers need to be trained better. The first time we ever came here we tried to order something off the menu and not a single one of the workers knew what were were talking about; we had to physically reach up and point to what we wanted and was told that they didn’t have it and that they didn’t know what it was. We came back another time and tried to order that same thing off the menu and asked what it was and only one of the workers knew and told us what it was and made it for us. We came back there again tonight and tried to order it again, since we have had it before, and the workers told us they don’t know why it’s on the menu as they have never heard of it and they have never had it before. But we have had it before just none of them knew what it was. Maybe all your workers should be trained in the different types of things and flavors you offer on your menu before putting it on there for people to order.
