Olivia’s Scratch Kitchen — Restaurant in Roanoke

UPDATE: I sent a copy of my receipt upon her request. I still have not heard from her. I will update if/when I do.

This review is based solely on the interaction I had with the restaurant owner. I placed an order online, when I called to confirm such order she told me that she was not at the restaurant at the moment because she had to go to the market to get Fish. She told me that once she got to the restaurant later in the evening she would cancel/ refund my order because she can’t do it on her phone. I live in down town Dallas area so it was not feasible for me to drive there to ensure such was taken care of. Rather, I trusted that she would cancel/ refund the order. I tried doing it online but there was no option to do such. Again, I never got the food so my review is based on the fact that it’s been two weeks since she stated she would refund the money and she has not done so. I’ve called multiple times and my calls have gone unanswered. I was super excited to support this business but due to the unfortunate circumstances it doesn't appear that I’ll be doing so anytime. I ordered the fried fish and plantains, and it did not disappoint. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, with just the right blend of spices that hit all the right notes. You can tell it was freshly prepared—not overly greasy or soggy like some places.

The food was really good but service leaves a lot to be desired. The first time we tried to go here, there was no one at the counter. Rang the bell and no one answered. Left and came back later in the day and was able to order. We got the fish. The food was good. Then we tried to order from GrubHub a few days later. But their system wasn't working so GrubHub had to cancel our order. Then finally we tried to order directly a few days later and no one one answered the phone. It just rang and went to voicemail. So we drove there and there was a sign that it was closed due to catering. The food is good but currently the restaurant is not consistent with hours and service.
