Capri was good in the past...So good that although our vehicle was in the shop, my family and I caught the bus to dine in on Friday, the 9th of December. We arrived at 6:24pm. The hostess stated there would be a 30 minute wait. At 7:10pm I asked how much longer did she believed we'd be waiting and she replied, "whenever the people are done eating we are waiting on them". That should've been my que to leave. That was rude and unprofessional. However, considering our traveling circumstances, the occasion, as well as time, we stayed. The bartender was kind enough to alert us of the option to order our pizza at the bar so it would posibly be ready by the time we were seated. The estimated preparation time for the pizza was 15 minutes. Considering the fact we had an engagement to attend at 8:30pm and a schedulded cab pick up time at 8:10pm, I swiftly entered my order at the bar. To make a long story short, we weren't seated until 7:19pm.... My 4 year old son wasn't offered or given a booster seat... we ordered a cheesy garlic bread appetizer that came with a long blond hair on it at approximately 7:40 p.m... the waiter took the garlic bread away and said the hostess would come and address the garlic bread issue...I had to explain to my hungry son why the yummy garlic bread he'd waited so patiently for was taken away after only one peice...we sat at the empty table and looked at each other some more... by this time i was frustrated/ feed up and ready to go... I kindly requested the pizza be boxed and taken to go remembering my manners at all times...you dont upset people that handle your food...the pizza did not arrive until 7:53...it was the wrong pizza...two orders was put in at the bar and they mixed them up...eventually we got our pizza... of course they took the garlic bread off the bill but that was it!!! As i was putting on my coat, the a Hostess came and said she was sorry about the hair.... I didnt eat or enjoy my night here...my significant other couldnt believe this is where I chose to go for my birthday dinner...oh, did i mention THIS WAS MY BIRTHDAY DINNER 😞😭... Soooo disappointed and disgusted...Capri use to be my favorite pizza/ Italian restaurant in Rockford...as you can see i had nothing to do/eat but watch time...two stars instead of one because they're good...
Read moreLet's just start off by saying, if you ever grew up going to the old restaurant downtown, you will be disappointed. We went on a Wednesday night around 7:45 so it wasn't busy at all. The outside aesthetics are very nice and welcoming, love the signs. It just seemed like something was off or just not right. We sat in the large dining room with the murals and booths from the old restaurant. The murals looked faded and smokey like they were not refurbished well. We sat at a large round table and the chairs were very comfortable but not the same style as the old restaurant which was disappointing. The old hanging lights from the old restaurant were nice to see but did not match the overall theme of the rest of the restaurant. The floor is concrete and cold. The menu was an old wrinkled piece of copier paper, not like the old leather bound ones. Our server was nice but the service was quite slow. The music was way too loud and it was on the Sirius XM 80's channel which took away from the whole old time Italian theme of the restaurant. The portions of food were very large and impressive, however the food was bland and mediocre at best. The pizza was amazing though.
My overall thoughts of the new restaurant are that it's nice. I was disappointed though. I get it, it's a new style but it's just not what I expected. The outside looks amazing. The inside feels cold and not well thought out. The outside seating area looked very nice however I didn't go out there so I can't comment on that.
It was nice to see a lot of the old pieces from the old restaurant, however, I don't think I will be returning. I'm sorry Capri but Linos and Salamones in Cherry valley...
Read moreI come to Rockford often but this was my first time staying a week and I wanted to eat something besides BeefARoo and Portillo's. I asked everyone from my friends, coworkers, the concierge, Facebook, etc, for recommendations, and EVERYONE include Capri's in their list. Figured it was a must try.
One of the things that was recommended was the breadsticks. Dont have those any more. Another thing that was recommended was the cannoli cheesecake. They dont have that any more. New menu, it appears they removed all the favorites.
I asked several people working the counter and kitchen for recommendations for their favorite and/or signature dishes. The Chicken Marsala Pasta was one that kept coming up. It was a bit of a disappointment. It tasted like buttered noodles with chicken and mushrooms. Maybe it'll be amazing reheated the way a lot of ok Italian dishes are.
It came with a house salad which had giant pieces of sausage and egg in it. Normally I pick the egg out of my salad and eat it separately, but it really worked here. Very nice balance.
The real highlight was the pizza. It is EXCELLENT Chicago style thin crust, but not too crunchy. The toppings are very generous and taste fresh. The pizza sauce has plenty of flavor. Will DEFINITELY come back and just get pizza.
The outside and interior are classic old school Italian American. I love it. I hope they never remodel.
Prices are standard for such fare.
Pizza gets 5 stars, pasta...
