I decided to try The Foot Lodge for a pair of snow boots. The sales experience wasn't bad; it was what I had expected given it is a small, independent business: the employees and the owner were sales-y and somewhat pushy, and they hovered. I wasn't expecting, though, they would not be concerned with fit, only making a sale. After trying on several pairs of boots, I settled on a pair that was a size bigger than I normally wear. I could get into the boot, but it was difficult to get a good read on walking, given that the store is so small and cramped. There is barely a good, comfortable place to sit and try on shoes without being in the way of other patrons. I was told by a sales person that I could wear the boots around the house and then return them if they didn't work out. I purchased the boots ($270) and went home to wear them around. I could get into the boots just fine, but when I walked in them, they were simply too big. When I returned the boots, I was met with an overt umbrage by the girl at the register. The owner came over to me and tried to push me toward other pairs of boots. When I told the owner that I didn't have time that day to try other boots, she kept pushing. When she held up a boot and I told her I didn't like the style, she acted utterly flabbergasted. By the time the return was taken care of by the girl at the register, who, by the way, said two words to me during the entire process, you could cut the tension with a knife. Neither the owner nor the girl working the register made any effort to keep me as a customer, and, in fact, acted as though they would just prefer that I not come back if I am going to be the kind of customer who returns shoes. After leaving, I visited a nearby independent business where I am acquainted with one of the employees. I told her about my experience, and she divulged that she had had a similar experience when she returned a pair of shoes to The Foot Lodge. Bottom line: if you want to purchase shoes at this store, just be sure the shoes are EXACTLY what you want and that they fit well, no matter the pushiness of the owner and the sales folks. If they are not exactly what you want and/or they don't fit well, and you abide by their return policy and return the shoes, you will be met with OVERT indignation. Despite the nice selection of shoes at The Foot Lodge and despite the fact that there are so few place in Rockford to purchase good shoes, I will not be a...
Read moreI have gotten several pairs of shoes, sandals and boots at the Foot Lodge in Loves Park. Prior to finding this gem of a store, my feet ached badly and no shoes seemed to help. After spending a lot of time with me, the friendly and knowledgeable owner, Sandy, left me to decide which, if any of the shoes she helped me with were suitable. I chose to buy two pairs of sandals. From that day on I have only purchased shoes from this store. My feet have never felt better. I went on to buy shoes for work, some comfy slippers and a pair of boots. Each time the service has been outstanding and very personal. When I go in I am always welcomed with a smile. Some days it is very busy, but the ladies keep checking in to make sure I have what I need. Because the shoes are expensive, shopping here takes me a little extra time but I have never been rushed. They have sometimes brought out more than 20 pairs of shoes for me to try on and never once did I feel pressured. The reason I decided to write this review is that last week I discovered my favorite sandals had a loose strap. I took them back hoping that they would assist me with sending them back to the company since I had worn them for an entire summer. Instead, Sandy took a look at them and decided that something hadn't been stitched correctly. She went to the back and brought out a brand new pair of shoes, and said she would send the other pair back to the company. I never expected her to do this, but was very grateful to her for taking care of the problem for me. There is a great variety of shoes, sandals and boots in this outstanding store. I would highly recommend checking out the Foot Lodge where comfort and style make your feet...
Read moreI first want to say that this is the first time I have ever done a review. I was referred to this business by a previous employee. I was in search of a good walking shoe. I was looking at 2 styles. I told the owner I needed a size 9, and she brought me an 8-8.5. She said the slip on style ran big according to her customers. I tried it and it felt fine. My concern was when the warm weather comes , and our feet tend to swell. She told me they were selling out fast , so she could hold them, or I should get them. I did prefer the slip on style, so I bought them. After walking in them for a short period of time, I knew I needed to really try them out. I went for a 25 minute walk, and the last 10 minutes, the top of the shoe was rubbing. They were feeling tight, and I knew I needed a bigger size. I went back to the store and she told me that she had brought 3 sizes in that shoe for me to try. She had only brought one size on each of the two styles. I told her we were only looking at one size. She then told me that I was free to try another size, but she couldn't take these back. They were $160, and for that kind of money, I felt she could have at least offered to stretch them, offer any suggestions, etc. It was obvious she wasn't going to offer any help, so I took the box back and left. It's the most I've ever paid for shoes, and I was doing it because I won a trip, and needed good walking shoes. They seemed very nice, and their store is beautiful. Anyone can be nice as long as it goes their way. It's how they resolve an issue that makes them great. I was considering another pair before I was referred to that store. I won't...
