I had high hopes about the new Mod Pizza here in Rockford. Only to be terribly let down. From start to finish the experience was terrible. I have never felt this way about any restaurant. First thing is the initial order taker was very rude and borderline hostile. He could not communicate like a normal human either. He berated us for not ordering properly. He did not write down what we wanted but just started asking questions then passed us along to tell the next person what we wanted on the pizza. I noticed on the sheet (that he did not fill out) that there is an area to mark what toppings we wanted. But, he refused to listen to us and that paper was never marked on. They were not busy at all, but the order takers sure acted distracted and talked amongst themselves while pretty much ignoring us. Then the check out guy asked us what we ordered even though he was right there and should have heard what we ordered and there were no other customers in line before or after us. And I am 47 years old with a big grey beard and he carded me for a beer. Which I can forgive, but then he said "jeez, you're old enough to be my Dad". Which is sooo rude. At that point we started feeling very out of place with these trendy kids ignoring us and making remarks like that. I was also disappointed to find out the tap beer system is already broken in this new restaurant and he could not serve me a tap beer. He said he would call my name when the pizza was done, which never happened. We sat near the counter and no one ever called my name. Waited like 15 minutes then went up to the counter to find our pizza sitting there. I didn't understand why there were 4 workers behind the counter just talking away and only a couple customers, why could they not have brought the pizza to our table??? Then watching the bus boy do his "work" disgusted us and we decided we will never eat at Mod Pizza EVER again. He was just lazily sloshing his rag around on tables barely wiping them off at all. And he was so visibly lazy he can barely walk around. And when he came to get our dirty dishes, he was not very nice at all and didn't say a word, he just grimaced and reached over us to get the dirty dishes. Also, there was an employee eating out of a big bowl just pacing back and forth by our table and it was very annoying. I guess we are not trendy enough to tolerate this horrible service and...
Read moreI look at some of the lesser reviews and would like to comment with my review of Mod Pizza. We have visited Mod Pizza half a dozen times. Each dining experience was flavorful, quickly prepared and served by an inviting staff. People who visit Mod Pizza have to understand that it is an artisan pizza in which you can have a pre-set type of pizza or add-as-you-go creation. Their crust is both crispy and chewy which you normally don't find on store bought or chain style pizzas. The ingredients supplied are numerous and very flavorful, from the roasted garlic cloves to the artichokes and cheeses. Remember that the more ingredients a person adds, decreases the crunch essential and sometimes soggy's the crust. These pizzas are designed to by like a true Naples or Roman pizza which have 3 maximum ingredients when served in Italy and Sicily. Mod Pizza's salads are freshly made and again, if you order a Caesar salad, it has certain ingredients that are very familiar in this type of salad. The employees are happy and cheerful. Try adding a balsamic fig glaze to the top of your pizza after they take it out of the wood fired oven and you will not be disappointed. Try this gem of a restaurant and know what pizza is really...
Read moreHottest new chain in America, and for good reason! They incorporate the build-your-own concept like Chipotle pioneered, but with pizza. They also use pretty healthy ingredients like Chipotle. The meats don't have nitrates or MSG, they have gluten-free crust that my girl needs, dairy-free cheese, as well as fresh herbs and veggies. Of course the meats are excellent too. I was impressed that they even have anchovies, which are of course part of any REAL Italian pizza. Don't worry, if you don't like them, they keep a tight lid on the container with the anchovies, so as not to 'contaminate' the other ingredients. Did I mention AWESOME prices? Yup, we fed the family a relatively healthy meal for less than almost anywhere else around. They even cook your pizza in a brick oven, as many toppings as you want! Two people can get filled up, sharing a pizza, for under $9.00!!!!! Unbelievable! And no tip to pay! I must admit, Mod Pizza impressed me more than any other restaurant in recent years. One of our top go-to spots...
