Unforgettable Culinary Journey at Blu in DTR
My dining experience at Blu in DTR was nothing short of a 5-star culinary delight. From the moment we stepped into this bustling hub of gastronomic creativity, we knew we were in for a memorable evening.
We kickstarted our meal with a delectable serving of Shishito Peppers - the perfect balance of flavors to whet our appetite. As a main, I opted for the Spicy Ika Salad. Each bite boasted the freshness of scallions and cucumber, perfectly balanced by the housemade ponzu and a daring kick of sriracha. Meanwhile, my wife savored the Seaweed Salad with Beets, topped off with sesame seeds - a harmony of taste that left us marveling at the skill behind each dish.
But the evening only escalated with the impressive range of rolls that followed. The City Hall Roll, Philly, and Darwin Roll were each a journey through a medley of flavors and textures. Particularly noteworthy was the Philly with its unexpected twist of salmon, cucumber, jalapeño, avocado, and crab; and a tastefully orchestrated topping of tuna, lemon, citrus tobiko, and Blu's unique wild smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. It was a beautiful concoction that danced on our taste buds.
Our experience reached its zenith with Chef Mandy’s surprise roll - a dish so phenomenal, we recommended it be a permanent addition to the menu, aptly named the FGR. A true testament to the chef's innovative flair, it simply blew our minds!
We opted for counter seating, which allowed us to interact with the engaging chefs, soaking in the electrifying vibe, and the stimulating background score that heightened the ambiance.
As a celiac, my wife particularly appreciated the chefs' meticulous approach towards preparing our meals, ensuring a 100% gluten-free dining experience. Their dedication to accommodate all dietary needs while delivering an outstanding culinary experience is commendable.
Overall, Blu in DTR proved to be a testament to exemplary dining - a place where gastronomy, ambiance, and attention to customer needs are weaved into a remarkable tapestry. We left with not just satisfied taste buds but an unforgettable experience, eager to return for more. Five stars simply don't...
Read moreLove the food, service was great, but we had an experience where we will never, I guess can never, go back.
I’ve eaten at Blue DTR a few times and the food is incredible. Last night I had dinner there with two friends. After we finished our great meal, we were just enjoying the vibe and the music. A very drunk guy kept walking by our table, gawking at the woman I was with. I know he was drunk because he kept stumbling as he walked by. He was wearing a Blue DTR hat and was either an employee, or perhaps the owner (more on that later). Uninvited he decided to sit down at our table which was uncomfortable given how drunk he was. He started the conversation asking about the ethnicity of my two friends (Indian and Mexican) and as he talked, kept touching my female friend on the arm. He escalated the behavior and at one point, lifted up her dress for a reason that escaped us all. At that point, I asked him to watch it. I asked him to watch his behavior and stop lifting up her dress. He immediately became aggressive and said that he hadn’t lifted her dress. He then got up, talked to the waiter and started yelling at us to leave. He kicked us out, and not wanting to make a further scene, we started to leave. As we were leaving he was yelling that we could never come back, we were kicked out forever.
I assume he was an employee or the owner given the hat he was wearing and the fact that nobody said anything in our defense as he was kicking us out. He was clearly drunk, aggressive and we just wanted to leave before it got physical.
If you are the owner, the individual, or perhaps his wife, there was a security camera behind the bar that seemed to be pointed our way all night. I suggest that you check the recording. You will see him sit down uninvited, repeatedly touch my female friend and then grab her dress to lift it up. I calmly asked him to watch his behavior and then he freaked out. I hope he has sobered up, reflects on his behavior, and decides to be better. He owes my friend an apology. Sorry to miss out on the great food, but what you allowed to happen is...
Read morePersonally, I love the food at Blu — it’s consistently great. However, the way this location handles seating and walk-ins really needs work.
My spouse and I visited on a Saturday night, arriving at 7:10 PM. We saw six empty tables and asked if we could sit at one. The host told us that two were reserved for 8:00 PM. I don’t understand why tables would be left empty for nearly an hour instead of seating waiting guests.
They wouldn’t allow us (a party of two) to sit, and we had to put our names down for a 30+ minute wait. As we left to wait, we noticed a group of 12 being seated on the patio — they had just arrived minutes before us. Considering how small this location is, a party that large takes up about a third of the restaurant. A group that size should be directed to the Bentonville location, because it impacts many other diners’ ability to get a table.
We waited the full 30 minutes (without receiving the promised text) and came back inside to find three of the same tables from earlier still empty. This time, we were seated immediately.
The entire process made no sense — holding tables unnecessarily and creating extra wait times for smaller parties. The food may be great, but the seating policy and handling of walk-ins at this location left me extremely disappointed.
Update: spent $130 and the sushi was very OFF. Took us an HOUR to get our rolls. We got raw rolls, for some reason very warm as if the fish has been sitting out. The rolls lacked flavor and they just poured sauce all over it. The food also made us feeling sick. So much so that even made us feel sick the next day. The waitress was average at best. She took our orders but that was it. Not the usual extra step. Didn’t even tell us the specials for food or drinks that they have done 15 other times.
After the host and food experience and the cost, we are super disappointed and will not be back. I’ll go spend $100 on mid sushi...
